About the Business
Welcome to The Nottingham Mechanics Institute, located at 3 N Sherwood St in the heart of Nottingham, UK! Our institution dates back to 1837, making us one of the oldest learning and social centers in the area. The Mechanics Institute movement originated in the early 19th century as a means of providing education and social opportunities to working-class communities, and we continue to uphold these values today.
Our establishment offers a range of educational and recreational activities for people of all ages and backgrounds. Our classes cover a wide range of subjects, from painting and drawing to computer coding and web design, and we also offer language lessons in French, Spanish, and German. Our tutors are highly experienced and dedicated individuals who have a passion for teaching and sharing their knowledge with others.
In addition to our educational offerings, we also provide social opportunities for our members. We host regular events, such as film screenings, poetry readings, and musical performances, as well as social clubs for things like chess, knitting, and photography. Our aim is to create a welcoming and inclusive community where people can come together to learn, create, and socialize.
Our location in Nottingham's city center is easily accessible by public transport, and we have ample parking nearby. Our building is a historic landmark in the area, with a stunning facade and beautifully maintained interior. We take great pride in preserving the heritage of our institution while also modernizing our facilities to meet the needs of our members.
Whether you're looking to expand your knowledge and skills, or simply want to connect with others who share your interests, The Nottingham Mechanics Institute is the perfect place for you. Come and join our community today!

"This used to be a good club but declined over the last couple of years. There are far better places to join. The Nottingham Mechanics is charitable status but members come second to the business of renting out rooms. I would look for a better place if you are seeking a club."
"Went for a specific visit. Staff/volunteers friendly. A good place with a variety of activities and facities for room hire."
"Was there for work so no choice really.....Venue meeting room extremely boiling as no air con and the 2 naff noisy wall fans did nothing. It's 2018 get some air con... even portable hire units!"
"They hire rooms out, and we were there to watch an illustrated talk for members of the RSPB. The rooms are big and there is a bar just off the foyer."
"A social club with annual subscription originally for retired engineers and family, now open to the general public. Includes library and lounge, cafe/canteen, dancehall, and clean well-heated rentable lecture rooms. Used for a lot of city centre WEA courses. Membership includes talks, dances, outings etc."
