Reviews
"The best thing about this hotel is the location. Handy for the university, to walk to Clifton village, and other central places. If you need somewhere to stay for one or two nights it might be OK but that's all. Read the other reviews, the mediocre ones all ring true to me too but here are a few other things I would mention. There is no in-room safe. It might say that on the website somewhere but I hadn't seen that so there is nowhere to lock devices or passports etc. I asked at reception if there was a hotel safe and was told there isn't but that the front door is manned 24/7. So if you're used to being able to lock away valuables you can't. On arrival, the cleanliness of the room seemed OK at first glance but then we noticed one of the throws over the end of one of the beds looked like what appeared to be blood on it. Next day I pulled back all the sheets and the mattress covers on both beds were stained with patchy yellow stains. The only time I've ever seen anything similar was in a backpackers hostel in Thailand in the 90's. To be fair housekeeping did change it all, and it was fine. But it shouldn't have been like that in the first place and it was really discomforting. We stayed 7 nights at the hotel. The night before we left we asked if it would be possible to get a late checkout at 12:30 instead of the posted 11:30am checkout. We were told we could for a 10 pound fee. I queried the necessity of the charge given that we had been there for 7 nights totalling over 1,000 pounds already but was told this was policy. So I said OK and asked if they would arrange a taxi for us the next morning at 12:30. The next day we get a call from reception in the room at 11:15am asking if everything was OK because checkout was at 11:30am. So 15 minutes before standard checkout time we are being asked why we haven't left yet and I'd arranged a late check out the night before anyway. I have never experienced anything like this and clearly the conversation with the receptionist the night before hadn't made it to the next shift. When we did leave the room at 12:15 we still got the 10 pound charge as well. In all it was all a bit hit and miss. Unless the Berkeley can pay more attention to detail and consistency on the things that matter, who cares about a free glass of sherry or enough fresh milk to make two cups of tea a day?"
"Lovely hotel. Only stayed for one night but check in was good. In mine and my boyfriends room, we got free sherry, fruits, fresh milk plus coffee and tea. Very nice and well kept. Receptionists were lovely and efficient with check in and check out :)"
"A warm welcome and a great location. A glass of sherry on arrival and some fruit left in the room...but no milk for tea/coffee the next day, nor after I requested it. A shame that some basic things like this were neglected."
"The room was filthy, mouldy, smelt damp even though it was on the top floor. Hotel run down , grubby and when we looked out the window our view was a brick wall parapit with lots if rubbish that had been thrown out if the mouldy window. The receptionist although polite was eating a pancake whilst checking us in! Hardly 4 star standards. We booked with parking however we're then told it was first come first serve and there were no spaces left. We could park outside the hotel for £2.50 per our. We didn't stay and had an immediate refund. I couldn't have slept there."
"Staff was welcoming complimentary decanter, fruit bowl and cafeteria nice touch. Can be a bit noisy at night from outside activities if you are a light sleeper. I would stay again just because of the location for what I needed it for."
