"An OK range of products sold at a good price."
"I can't believe how this store bags a good rating. The prices are higher then a posh shop , for basics like tea , veg and meat. It's a small dark and dank shop The supposidly fresh pies taste like plastic , extremly limited variery in stock , out of date section always have items that have gone bad (as in not selable and that don't look eatable ) and its gross the way they chuck in fresh items like cakes into the same section of reduced meat. A very mean demenour is the embodiment of Scotflid. Lots of grumpy staff members , like the old English manager. The main thing is the lack of selection and the prices. Some of the till staff are friendly a few have had a personality transplant."
"More like Scotmean and not Co-operative just a growing blight on the Edinburgh landscape. Cause you only have to turn a corner and there is another one. It likes to make out it's some kind of working class hero but is nothing of the sort it charges Waitrose prices for generic uninspired products and in the case of this shop is poorly stocked and over charges three times more then Asda on basics. Likes to make out its some pal to the community its nothing of the sort. I've been given them loads of business daily for near a year and when I asked for some change (to change £10 into smaller change for the purpose of catching a bus ) the response was really mean and antagonistic from the wee meany on the cash desk. The duty manager even though he's seen me buy loads from there before gave no help. Shocking cause when I walked into Sainsbury's down the road a shop I barely use the duty manager unlike Scotmean did not make me feel like I was asking for the earth and gladly assisted me in a friendly manner. I certainly wont be shopping big at this rip off shop anymore and they've had loads of money of me in the past cause it's one of the few shops in the area and they probably get away on the bandit pricing as a result , However there is a Tesco's ten minutes away that is much cheaper. One of the day manager's is mean and suspicious and tried to make a big deal when I returned a bottle of spirits , cause it was labelled Vermouth and for some bizarre reasons was loaded with artificial ingredients once I checked the label. Of course that's nothing like the original recipe. Some of the staff are friendly though and service is generally nice. Pies are good but they don't make them and they are often burnt. Most are over dry and the cakes can be stale tasting . It would all probably be done better if a local baker cold afford the rent instead of prime retail space in Edinburgh as it these days , being an exclusive in for big greedy companies just like Scotmid. Certainly not the community supporter it claims to be just another giant monopoly swallowing up little local business's and killing individuality and originality in communities all over Edinburgh. In short no different from Tesco's or Sainsbury's. The CEO must live local as they have four Scotmid's in a 15 minute area already all selling more or less the same over priced generic stuff and trying to make out their not M &S but down to earth lads . If that's not a monopoly I don't know what is , the local blue rinse brigade would be up in arms if this was Tesco's or Poundland at it. Cause its the fake Community store on the make they are swayed."
"Well situated; Staff are very friendly, and the bakery is nice. However, the selection in this shop is ridiculous. Maybe it's just my bad luck, but they NEVER have what I come for. I pop in for canned corn? They don't have that. I go for feta, mozzarella, tomatoes, carrots, beans, pastry dough, sour cream, any other simple staple food? No luck. They're always out of exactly what you need, somehow. What they do have is quite expensive, though the student discount is nice."
"Staff are a bit rude and unprofessional , not the most friendliest , average choice of products though a good bakery , one guy served me with dripping wet hands , it's not as cheap as the one over in Nicholson nor as friendly . Considering all of that it would be better if they had self service check outs so you would not have to interact with the staff. But being as though this is Scotmid nay doubt it will take them another twenty years to catch up with what Tesco , Asda and Sainsbury's already do."
