"Reasonable sized little green oasis in the East end of the historic New Town. Handy for a seat, maybe grab a Costa, people watch or just pass through between the George Street bars and shops to Multrees Walk and ST James quarter beyond. Once the centre of Edinburgh's financial sector, but now given over predominantly to retail outlets. Some of the fine Georgian buildings around its edge remain, whilst the squares dominating feature is the monument to Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville."
"Beautiful square in the bustling city center, especially beautiful at Xmas time with all that illumination on and Nativity scenes in play. Magic! Public love passing through it or just sit there next to Melville Monument or in the Costa Cafeteria enjoing the view and the coffee, indeed. Kids like splashing in the pond there in the summer. Bliss!"
"Lovely place. Picnic, tourist attraction, restaurants and great public transportation links. This is right in the middle of the city centre. All tourist city tour buses start from this point. Can be very busy during summers. Scott Monument, Waverley Station and high street within mins of walk."
"A great place to relax and get a cup of coffee β There is a small cafe in the garden. There is a walking path around the monument in the middle. I'm giving 4 stars because it can get busy with limited seating. Especially when it is sunny, a lot people come for the tour buses that start next to the garden."
"Very beautiful place. You can enjoy the sun or sit on the bank. People chill and relax here. Or take a coffee from Costa. Its a place where you can relax after your visit of the city centre or after shopping."
