"We looked for a place for a nice walk with our dog. Some place nice, green and quiet. Found this park here online and thought it looked promising. Came by car. Only a 40 minute drive from our BnB. Plenty of parking at the visitors centre at the main entrance. Free of charge. And no charge to enter the park as well. There are some shops, a coffee shop, a garden center, arts & crafts, toilets, a playground. Lots to do. There are several paths leading you through the big grounds of this park. Some very easy and flat. Some more narrow and a bit wet after rainy days. Bring some good shoes to be sure. We loved walking around the park with our English Bulldog. Lots of other furry friends to meet here. And a lot less visitors than one might expect. A first highlight is the Craigend Castle. Or more like what remains of it. Now nature is taking it back and it's fenced off. Some part of me would love to see it restored. Bought I also understand that they like to keep it this way. Let nature take it back for a living place for various animals. Then Mugdock Loch is another highlight. Walk around this beautiful quiet little Loch. Plenty of photo ops and benches for a picnic. The Loch is also the place where you will find the Mugdock Castle. Some really nice remains. Very fun to explore. With tables to make a picnic. A really nice little castle. We very much enjoyed our day here. Follow the map and the paths. Or just start walking and let yourself get lost a little. Surprisingly it's free...something that wouldn't be possible in my country. Not an impressive park of this size with so much to see. A lovely place."
"Been here twice now for walks and a picnic. Very convenient by train to Milngavie if you don't mind a walk, and seemed like plenty of parking if you'd like to drive. Two castles and a lake, a garden centre, restaurant, playground all provide lots to do for families, and plenty of open space to have a ramble, walk a dog, take in the sights, etc. Beautiful views of the Campsies and over the Clyde valley from the open field west of Mugdock Castle."
"A lovely place to visit. It is very popular with dog owners. Please keep your dogs on the lead if they can not be controlled. We had an unfortunate incident with a dog knocking my toddler down to the ground. There are two castles worth visiting on site."
"We went to the loch. Water was generally warm (on the hottest day of the year, I've not been here before so I can't compare it to other days). Generally not deep. Makes for a good swim/sup board session. Beautiful setting with hills in the background and a popular place. The actual car park is a couple of miles from the loch, though people drive up the road and park on the verge. This seems acceptable but it gets busy along the verge so just be aware of this."
"My only disappointment is that we didn't have enough time to explore the whole park! To do so would probably require an entire weekend. So much to do in one country park and absolutely stunning surroundings. So many nature trails and old castles & ruins you could easily & gladly get lost! Book the BBQs ahead to avoid disappointment (using website or visitor centre) Oh and don't swim in the lochs. Beautiful magical place, you can really feel the history here. We didn't even get to see half of it and so we intend to go back and see the rest! Would definitely recommend for a day out. Enjoy"
