"Brought my car (2014 Peugeot 208) to diagnose the cause of a P0420 fault code despite a new catalytic converter, about 3 weeks ago. They have managed to fix the code by performing some ECU re-calibration. I have not had a repeat of this code. It seems that some garages are better at "computer" work than others and Alex Brown seems to be one of these. I had an impression that a full report would have been provided (as stated by their website). This was not my experience. I would suggest even a line or 2 of the key findings, plus some basic observations (e.g. mileage) be included in the invoice. This would help for a couple reasons 1. Not everyone (myself included) understands the terminology given verbally and it gives us opportunity for further research 2. Provides a record which can be followed-up if needed (and especially if at another garage). But yes, the whole interaction cost me £78 (including VAT) and one shouldn't be expecting a fancy folder and a courtesy car to come along with it. Gordon was very patient in explaining what the issue was and what had been done. Front counter lady (didn't get her name) was incredibly helpful as well. This was an overall positive experience and would return again if the need arises. Would recommend this garage."
"visited today for my MOT I was honestly shocked at the price of an hours labour. £72 including VAT (had 1 drop link replaced i personally supplied the garage with the part for quickness to get my car back for the weekend) Unfortunately the garage was not certain of there own prices. was given 4 prices in an hour. EXPLAINED!!! quoted £60 by phone ..£35 at reception £60 again when went to pay the bill . then informed yet again it was £72 because there is VAT. confused !! The receptionist got price from a mechanic for the first quote over the phone at £60 (wasn't happy but hey ho) "2nd quote £35 was given at reception when handing in the drop link for the repair as we did ask why it was so expensive? it was confirmed £60 was too expensive by a mechanic at this point so £35 it was. 3rd quote when paying the bill went back up to the original £60 because the nuts needed heated up to free them off. i know gas is getting expensive guys but thats taking the p*ss £25 for 60 seconds or so with oxy acetaline torch (grinder to cut them off would have been an economical option and faster) + last time i checked gas was a consumable item in garages just like a mechanic wouldn't charge an extra 20 quid for snapping his favourite wrench on my vehicle... 4th quote paying the bill, £60 is now no more, its now £72 because VATABLE LABOUR (VAT) i was under the impression for retail customers it would make sense to add all this together. after bringing the exact £60 i was quoted. it would be very helpful to customers if VAT was added in the overall price so accurate payment can be given at the till and customers have the accurate money with them. it is also unprofessional to chop and change prices for mundane excuses (especially when using heat to get rusted nuts off older vehicles is common practice) I felt like i was served in a panic and no one knew what was going on. Please make your hourly rate clear and stick to it i felt you dropped it to £35 to get my car on the ramp and left me no choice in the over all price. To avoid unhappy customers please give the proper full price before repairs are carried out and stay with that price including VAT. To avoid un happy and stressed customers. its fortunate on my visit i had my bank card if this was a very expensive repair a customer could be in a lot of financial trouble in the current financial climate it would be beneficial to the business if honesty and customer service was a priority especially with the bill. poor service ."
"What a wonderful young man, Gordon. You were very helpful and kind to me on my 1st visit to you. Your work was carried out professionally and was completed under the time you gave me for collection. If I could give you the moon and stars I would. Thank you. Mary Hall"
"Been taking my vehicle here now for the last 3-4yrs and always very happy with their service. Competitively priced and very customer focused. As an example, I work away from home each week & live alone so when I need a service, MOT, etc I drop off my car at the weekend, and they do whatever is required and then drop off my car onto my driveway (a mile or so away) and post my keys through the letterbox. Very highly recommended."
"Highly Recommend..after such a stressful morning and being told from elsewhere that i had a huge issue with my car.. Popped here for a price for it. The guy had a look and it seems the issue wasnt as bad as i was told. MOTd while i was there. No issues. No Drama..my old car is back on the road again with a decent bill of health. Thanku so much . I will most definitely be using Alex Brown Garage again."
