"I would give five stars because I have stayed here several times before and liked it, especially the location, the rooftop outdoor space and the downstairs bar but I want to share my recent encounter also here because I was really shocked at the behaviour of the new receptionist. As I also wrote on tripadvisor: I knew it was always possible to check in on-site and pay as I was unable to do it online for some reasons. I was coming from Birmingham and hadn't slept properly the night before as I was working and then traveling so feeling very tired and exhausted. I was glad when i arrived at this place I knew and thought I would be able to get a shared room if available and just relax finally. That was February 22nd around noon. I asked if they had any rooms and that I had to book in person and the guy at the desk / door RUDELY told me "I'm not gonna do that". I was kind of shocked at HOW he said it, like it was a favour he wouldn't grant me and he didn't even say it in a respectful way like "sorry, we can't do that anymore, you would have to book online please", that would have been totally okay of course. He turned me away with my two huge suitcases that I had to carry up and down the stairs in the tube again to go to the other part of town and pay again because he wanted to act like a boss?!? I was really shocked because the kind staff checked me in on my last stay without any problems so I said that to him and he said "yeah they did that for you but I'm not gonna do it for ya !!!" I was SHOCKED at the way he spoke to me and cried on my way to the other hotel. I ended up staying in the St Christopher's Inn at London Bridge where they treated me like a guest and checked me in without hesitation or rude words! Thank you to them, choice of staff is important...! Please consider this is not the right way to treat guests."
"I stayed here in November for a few nights. It was overall a good experience, but there are a few things that you as a traveller should take note of. I wasn't expecting much (I know it's a hostel after all, not a hotel), but it is quite a loud location. The hostel is located near a busy road so expect (a lot) of sirens and traffic noise during the night. There is also a pub in the hostel, so if you're near the (always opened) window you'll hear the noises from the bar and music as well. The rooms were okay, my particular room was cleaned regularly, so that was nice, but especially on the bottom bunk between the wall and the matress was a lot of dust and grime. Also the USB charger on the side of the bed was defective. The beds themselves were clean though, so that was a plus. There are lockers available, but in the room I was staying in most of the lockers were broken, and even with my own lock I wasn't able to lock most of them, so that's something to keep in mind. The breakfast I'd booked was okay, there was bread with various spreads, cereal, etc with boiling water for tea and instant coffee which was nice. However day after day there were not enough plates and you had to go to the bar to ask for more. Dirty dishes were also placed right next to the clean ones which was a bit confusing. Furthermore they didn't really restock any breakfast items, so gone is gone. There is a bathroom on all floors, but there is one upstairs as well, but it does not have any light at night which was a little bothersome, and the upstairs showers have an door open with them at all times, and being that it was November it was really cold. The staff was very friendly though, which was for me a plus. I forgot my card going to the bathroom and they very generously gave me another at no charge. We also could place our stuff in in the hostel before check-in, so that was nice as well. I had an okay stay here, the hostel was perfectly servicable for a few days, but don't expect too much from it, especially if you're a light sleeper or a bit icky about clean bathrooms."
"Not a huge fan. Will charge you to rent a converter, toilets were nasty every time we went in. It smelled pretty rank. And someone took my pillow randomly during the day but that’s not the hostels fault. Met some creepy people, also not their fault but not the best vibe in general. Staff was fine."
"Fantastic place to stay! Rooms were perfect for a hostel and the service was great! The staff were very pleasant, friendly and welcoming. The manager was just as good also! Great place to stay at with great vibes!"
"Great place to stay when looking for accommodation in budget. Place is connected by road and central line by tube. 1 min walk from tube station. Rooms wear clean, well maintained, beds are comfortable and all facilities are provided as mentioned. Only reason to reduce one star is due to bad experience I had with card used to unlock dorm room. It was no working and I had to make multiple trips to reception to get it sorted. The problem was solved when I returned back. Overall, I recommend St Christopher's Inn at Shepherd Bush for any single, couple or group of friends."
