"My time here was a living hell, since I was a young child I ve had serious speech and language issues, and learning difficulties, I was diagnosed with Autism aswell and what support did I receive?, none!, in class often I recall been shouted at like someone had died just because I didn't understand what the teacher was saying I was then often sent out for apparently disruptive behaviour and been cheeky and what not, most of the subject teachers would do this expecting me to understand and know the answer, they d mock me and try embarrass me just because I was so dam useless at the time, I requested the higher ups to let my teachers know of my issues this only worked for a few days then my teachers became really disrespectful again, i was afraid to ask for help in class because of the teachers reaction, i requested not to have an assistant teacher with me after been bullied for it, I was always given isolation, detentions, I was made to stand in front of the school when everyone was eating dinner or lining up for fire tests which got me so much more unwanted attention this happened because I was been punished for my so called bad behaviour, despite been a really really nice guy probably the nicest person someone will ever meet, If i didnt complete the massive amounts of challenging homework I received for someone of my capabilities I was made to miss my lunches and go hungry, these issues of mine got me bullied aswell other students would hit me all the time, they d always swear at me, some even tried to steal from me and when I reported all of this it blew over the teachers heads they didn't care if I was lucky they d have a word with the bully and even then it wasn't even lucky because they d make it so obvious that I had reported it so the bullying continued and got worse, eventually this was the last straw I told the staff I was gonna start hitting back they warned me about how i d get punished i didnt care and i started to have some fights i would have had lots more if i had more confidence at the time, but my confidence was dreadful, i started hitting back and I was given week long isolations and the other person who would hit me first would only get a couple of days max this was on repeat I d have a fights every few weeks and the outcomes always the same me getting punished lots worse than the bully, I started avoiding class and refusing to learn hiding in the toilets crying, I would have put my foot down more often if I had the confidence, Uniform was another issue you have to have the 100 percent correct shoes and a blazer with the logo on, my Father said he couldn't afford the correct clothing for all his kids so when I went to school with the wrong shoes or the wrong blazer I was yelled at the gates and refused entry aswell as other students, black shoes weren't even okay if they weren't the right make it was crazy and if you were allowed in after pleading with the staff you d be made to stay away from everyone all day, isolation seemed to be the answer for everything, detentions on the spot for tie not been straight or shirt not tucked in, despite living 20 miles away and sometimes been late I still got into trouble like it's my fault my parents made me late, 5 yrs of hell this was my school life ,I wouldn't recommend this school to people with special needs, after I left the school my brother and sister who dont even have special needs they faced similar problems they always came home unhappy and stressed and always ranted on about the same strict rules, many of the teachers were dreadful but Mr Sinclair stood out as the worst he s a problem for the school not the solution"
"I am a pupil at Selby High School, School is meant to be the best years of your life but so far they have not. Your trying to run a private school which is not working, Your adding new rules to the school which is making us all unhappy and we all go home in a bad mood from the day we have had. Selby High school use to be a good place to work but now its nothing but a joke."
"i am a student at selby high and it is bad we get no help with work half of the time and school is ment to be the best time of your life and it is miserable"
"Nothing but a joke. Stupid rules stupid school. Get rid of mr sinclair and it would be such a happier place for students."
"since i wrote that last review: selby high school when i first started selby high school in 2010 the school was really good and up until year 9 stayed as a good school and then we got a new assistant head teacher Mr Sinclair... and he brought in a number of new rules two of which are a form of public humiliation. he brought in the punishment of "bin duty" this is where a student is given a large bin bag and possibly a glove (if you are lucky) and they have to walk around the dinner hall and pick up the litter (which is a teachers job). he also brought in the rule that if you are even one minuet late you will get issued a little slip of paper the lesson before lunch and you will go and sit for 20 minuets doing absolutely nothing which is pointless. and if for any reason you don't receive that little slip of paper you end up stood on the stage for the whole lunch and the school say that they always make sure that the students stood on the stage get there lunch but i personally have been put on there and not had my lunch. in the past few weeks or so i have received two or three threats from the school one from Mr Sinclair when he threatened to permanently exclude me for not wearing my tie! another from the deputy head teacher when he threatened to chain my bike up because he doesn't believe it is road legal! the third threat was when i got my e-cig confiscated after i reported it stolen they took it of me which was an infringement of my human rights as i am 16 and legally aloud to posses one then the school threatened to destroy it if it wasn't picked up by my parents. overall over my time here at selby high school i have found that the school has got more and more pathetic as my time here goes on. i have also found that these past few months to a year they have been more focused on looking like a good school and appearing to be good than actually teaching us and actually being a good school. i know one kid got so fed up with the school he moved to barlby high and i also know a few others that have considered moving. and finally i feel that the school has gone down hill fairly rapidly and the rules have got increasingly more pathetic and more pointless as time goes on. i strongly recommend that you do not let your son/daughter apply to this school selby high school approached me and told me to remove the review as they do not want the public to know what they are truly like and how they actually treat students because they get such good ofsted reports but that is not a true reflection of the school as it is easy to make the school seem good for a day. and it is really easy for teachers to make there lessons really good for one day."
