"Mostly okay experience, it takes a while to get through on the phone (I’ve been 50th place in the queue at 8:30am) but I’ve always managed to get an appointment and the nurse who did my blood test was lovely. One of the receptionists , not sure who , usually has a dismissive tone. I was told by the NHS website to book a GP appointment if experiencing symptoms of tachycardia. I explained this to the receptionist who admitted “I don’t know what you’re talking about” in reference to my symptoms. She didn’t direct me to a GP and instead tried to schedule a video call with a contracted private company. When I said I wasn’t free that day, she told me to ring up another day to see if they had any spaces. I don’t understand why she thought this was the appropriate avenue, when I rang 111 about my tachycardia they correctly gave me a GP appointment for it. I dealt with the same receptionist after my GP appointment. The nurse specifically instructed me to wait for a call back for the admin team about any cancellations for an ECG. I missed a call from them, waited that day, and called back the next day to notify them that I hadn’t made an appointment still. When I told this to the receptionist she was confused and told me that it was my responsibility to call the practise, contrary to what I was told. Throughout the call she had the same dismissive tone and it sounded like my problems were just an inconvenience to her. I get that receptionists have to juggle appointments and what not but I didn’t do a single thing wrong. I don’t even want to call the practise anymore because I feel stupid when I speak to her."
"Rarely go to my surgery, but was summoned to go for a annual review which I have not had for more than 5 years. The health assistance I saw was very thorough and she told me I MUST make an appointment with a GP, as my blood pressure was extremely high. She also told me to do a urine sample and reiterated again "don't forget to make a GP appointment " I was told by the receptionist that I couldn't and was told to ring at 8 in the morning. I explained that the nurse insisted I book a GP appointment, which the receptionist said "she will have to speak with the nurse because she shouldn't of told me that. Who do I need to adhere too. Confused"
"To get through in the mornings is a nightmare, ring right on 8am and you are 25/20 in the queue. By the time you get through there's no chance to book a slot. If you have a 'named' Doctor assigned to you being elderly then you should have priority seeing that Doctor . The Doctor should also do follow ups on these patients even if they are once every 3 months so their needs are looked after."
"Constantly changing the enquiries date on the website, making it almost impossible to book an appointment. Every time I went I was given a different doctor who had very little information about me. I felt uncomfortable and have been messed about several times."
"my GP there is lovely, but the receptionist has made me cry on two occasions from pure rudeness and unhelpfulness. I called ahead saying I’d be ten minutes late, because I know that’s sometimes cause for cancellation - HOWEVER, I was told it would be fine. I arrived, ten minutes late, and was then told completely the opposite in a very harsh manner. She then went to speak to the nurse and came back five minutes later, saying the nurse wouldn’t see me as I was now fifteen minutes late! I have been waiting months for this appointment and am in a lot of pain, but of course sympathy is too much for this receptionist."
