"They offered a heavy discount to a female customer whilst overcharging me, in front of me. It later transpired that they hadn't logged my vehicle into the parking eye database, which led to me receiving a parking fine, due to, at best, their incompetence and negligence. Certainly, I won't be returning here again, and I advise you not to give them custom either."
"Lack of care and attention putting the car back together after its major service. Not long after its Halfords service the plastic tray which protects the underside of the engine fell down while I was driving on the motorway as it hadn’t been properly fitted back on and had worked its way loose. If this had come off completely on the motorway it could have caused a serious accident. I had to take the car back twice before the tray was properly secured, and on the second visit they identified that the front brake covers were also damaged (the cause of noise), but couldn’t source new ones. They say that the brake covers are a separate issue, but we are pretty sure that it is linked to the tray coming off, as there hadn’t been any noise issues before that. The bottom line is the damage was caused by them not fixing the tray back on properly when they completed the service, and now we will need to pay more money to go and get it sorted at another garage. They admitted they should have warned us that they hadn’t been able to get the tray back on properly. Needless to say we won’t be trusting them to do another service."
"I really recommend this Halfords. The people are really nice and helpful. Kat from the reception is well knowledgeable and customer oriented. The technician was very helpful and knowledgeable. I forgot his name.."
"Started off with a ~200£ servicing. But got a call about tire realignment, which I gave the go ahead for. I was told that it will cost ~600£. But , the bill had a fee of ~250£ for replacing all the tires. I never wanted the tire replaced. In fact, one of the tires was a brand new tire, replaced during the recent MOT I had done at the same Halfords center. So, a needless overcharge of ~250 for me. The alignment itself, was not complete, and the people said that they were not able to fix the alignment 100%. I was asked to go to my previous mechanic - who had installed the rear axle support. My previous local mechanic was able to fix the re-alignment for another ~40£. So around ~600 were charged for doing a ~40£ job and nothing substantial was done other than changing all 4 tyres, which I didn't ask for and wasn't needed ( The car just passed the MOT at the same Halfords center on the 5th of September . I am writing this on 9th of November. We have not taken the car out of Altrincham since then -- just to give you feel of our usage. Its pretty much pick and drop kids from/to school. I work from home - so no office commute as well. ) I am not car savvy and do not understand all the lingo. So unless you are an expert with cars, it wouldn't be wise to go to Halfords, because you can lose a lot of money for no apparent reason. 600 means a lot to me and my family. I have learnt a lesson, in a hard way."
"New tyres and wheel alignment - we took our car here recently to have 2 new front tyres and the wheel alignment done which was £35 extra. The day after, we had the MOT done at our local garage. Two mechanics there agreed that the wheel alignment had not been done by Halfords as the track rod end locking nuts had not been released as they were still seized up with rust, and no evidence of even a spanner touching it or lubrication/heat being applied to release the nuts. They also said we should have been given a printout with before and after adjustment figures which Halfords could not provide as they had no machine. We took the car back to Halfords and eventually, they agreed to refund then said they would look at the car and adjust it. The mechanic played around for a few minutes then shouted out 'that's bang on!' The manager then told us the difference was marginal, about 1 degree and even showed us some new spanner marks on the rod and nut, even though they still appeared seized up with rust (in photos). They said they didn't need to use lubrication. We took their word for it and drove 15 miles back home, but noticed the car still veering off and now the steering wheel was shaking. We took the car back to our local garage who said the tracking was still out according to their machine and that the nuts had again not been undone. They had to apply heat to release them. They provided us with a printout showing the before and after figures showing the difference. They also had to apply the correct weights for the wheel balancing. Now the car is driving smoothly, even though it ended up costing more. Halfords - please don't underestimate our intelligence and deceive us. Provide more training and up to date equipment. Reinforce your smoking policy to your employees. Doesn't look good on arrival."
