Three years later, Hamilton's mail service was elevated to Unofficial Post Office status, and Mrs. Catherine Hamilton, widow of Hugh Hamilton, became the first Post Mistress. After marrying the local schoolteacher, William Brundrit, in 1879, the Post Office became known as Hamilton. However, in 1892, the name was changed to Terrors Creek, named after the creek that bordered the town. This name was short-lived, as in 1917, it was changed to Dayboro to avoid confusion with Torrens Creek, as per the Postmaster-General's recommendation. The name Dayboro was chosen to honor William Henry Day, a prominent figure in Brisbane who leased the land on which the majority of the town now stands and established a sugar plantation and mill.
