Koch, who redesigned the house in the French Second Empire style. Labassa's interior is adorned with opulent features such as gilt embossed wallpapers, intricate stained glass, and a rare trompe l’oeil ceiling. In 1904, the mansion was renamed Labassa and became the residence of Melbourne's elite until 1920, when it was converted into flats.
