About the Business
Welcome to Wrybill Birding Tours, NZ, located at 83 James Cook Street in Havelock North, New Zealand. We are an establishment and point of interest that specializes in providing exceptional birding experiences in New Zealand.
Our journey began when a group of passionate birders decided to establish their own independent bird-guiding business. We recognized the need for knowledgeable birders who truly understood New Zealand birds and birding sites, and who were based in the country with access to up-to-date information. As true birders ourselves, our dedication to our craft is evident in our name.
One of our specialties is organizing pelagic birding trips, where we have unparalleled expertise within New Zealand. In fact, our journey took an extraordinary turn in 2003 when we rediscovered the supposedly extinct New Zealand Storm-petrel. This incredible find reaffirmed our commitment to our mission. However, our expertise extends beyond pelagic birds, and we possess a deep understanding of land-birds as well, ensuring an enjoyable birding experience for all.
Allow us to introduce ourselves - Sav Saville and Brent Stephenson. Due to our popularity and the desire to maintain small group sizes of just 8 people, we have enlisted the help of other exceptional New Zealand birders such as Phil Hammond, Matt Jones, Neil Robertson, David Thomas, Andrew Crossland, and Dave Howes. The decision to expand our team was not taken lightly, but their excellence and seamless integration into our group have been affirmed by our clients.
We offer a range of services, from pre-trip planning advice to fully organized tours of the North and South Islands, including Stewart Island, and everything in between. Additionally, as we reside in different parts of the country, we can provide guided trips in our respective areas for one or more days and create custom itineraries tailored to your preferences. You can find trip reports from our pelagics, personal birding trips, and guided tours on our website. If you're planning a visit to New Zealand, please don't hesitate to email us for assistance.

Reviews
"We have just returned from an amazing tour 22 day birding in New Zealand. Dave Howe was our leader and must be congratulated on his expertise in finding the endemics. The pelagics were superb and enabled us to get so close to many albatross. Accommodation and food were excellent and Dave was polite, patient, amusing and interacted well with all of our group. Wonderful tour, shall having many lasting memories for sure."
