About the Business
Welcome to Bulk Terminal, located at 154 Fryatt Street, Dunedin, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we offer a range of services for handling containerised, multipurpose, and conventional vessels.
At Port Chalmers, our facility boasts three berths that provide berthing flexibility for various types of vessels. The swinging basin, dredged to a depth of 13.5 metres, with a turning diameter of 487 metres, ensures smooth navigation and efficient operations. The fairway to Port Chalmers Basin is also declared at 13.5m (at chart Datum), providing ample space for vessels.
Our terminal is frequented by tankers, fishing vessels, bulk carriers, and smaller conventional vessels. The channel between Port Chalmers and Dunedin can accommodate vessels of up to 185 metres LOA, 8.0 metres draught, and 32.3 metres beam. Please note that vessels exceeding 150 metres LOA can only transit during daylight hours.
Adjacent to the Dunedin wharves, we have established a cold storage industry to cater to the region's meat, dairy, fishing, and horticultural exports. This proximity ensures efficient logistics and timely handling of perishable goods. Additionally, the Ravensbourne fertiliser pier is conveniently located between Port Chalmers and Dunedin.
For vessels using the Upper Harbour Channel, the declared depth is 8.50m (at chart Datum), with a constraining depth of 7.70m (at chart Datum) from Beacon #67 to the turning basin. Please refer to the latest sounding chart for the most accurate information, as actual soundings may differ from the official NZ 6612 chart.
When berthing at our Upper Harbour berths, such as the Oil Jetty, Leith Wharf, or X/Y berth, please note the following depths: Oil Jetty - 7.7m, X/Y berth - 7.7m, Leith Wharf - 7.7m. Prior to any movements, it is essential to consult the latest sounding chart for up-to-date information.
Safety is of utmost importance to us, and we want to ensure the protection of our infrastructure. Therefore, it is crucial to adhere to the loading capacities of Port Otago wharves and jetties. Exceeding these capacities can lead to damage or collapse. If you require heavy loading or crane operations, please obtain a Heavy Loading Permit from Port Otago Limited at least 48 hours in advance. Access or lifts should only be carried out after receiving countersigned approval.
At Bulk Terminal, we strive to provide efficient and reliable services for all your vessel handling needs. Contact us today to discuss how we can assist you with your shipping requirements.
