Welcome to Hohepa School, a unique institution located in Napier, New Zealand. Situated on a beautiful biodynamic farm in the Poraiti hills, our school provides a nurturing environment for children and young people aged 7-21 years with very special requirements for their care and education.

At Hohepa School, we understand the importance of individualized support and resources. That's why all our students are on the Ongoing and Reviewable Resourcing Scheme (ORRS), which funds extra support through therapy programs and teacher aides to assist the teacher in the classroom.

Our school year consists of 39 weeks divided into four terms. During each term, children stay at Hohepa School, but they have the opportunity to return home for part or all of the holidays. This ensures a balance between their educational needs and the comfort of being with their families.

The picturesque location of our school offers breathtaking views over Hawke's Bay, providing excellent recreational opportunities for the children. With three playground areas, a sports field, and a shared outdoor swimming pool with the rest of the Hohepa Poraiti community, our students can engage in physical activities and enjoy the natural beauty of the surroundings.

Being in close proximity to the twin cities of Napier and Hastings, our students have easy access to libraries, theaters, shops, and other public amenities. They can fully immerse themselves in the wider community, enjoying a variety of experiences and expanding their horizons.

Our school grounds are part of the larger Hohepa Community property, which includes the children's residential community, cropped and citrus areas, worker and support houses, and the original land and home of founder Lewis Harris. The purpose-built houses in which the children live provide a comfortable and homely environment, with each child having their own bedroom.

In late 2010, we completed the construction of our new school facilities. These state-of-the-art facilities include five classrooms, a transition block, craft room, kitchen and technology learning room, library and computer facilities, assembly room, kitchen and dining room, and a hall for gatherings, meetings, festivals, and concerts. One special feature is our 'Sensory Room,' where students can explore sensory experiences using technology-based programs specifically designed for individual needs.

To cater to a comprehensive range of therapies, we also have additional rooms for speech, music, eurythmy, nursing, art, and movement therapies, as well as a medical consulting room. This ensures that our students have access to a wide range of resources and support to enhance their learning and well-being.
