About the Business
Welcome to Cure Parkinson’s NZ, located at Hamilton, State Highway 26, 470. As an establishment dedicated to shaping and fueling effective research, we are on a mission to find a cure for Parkinson’s disease. Our goal is to develop therapies that can slow, stop, or even reverse the progression of this insidious disease.
Cure Parkinson’s NZ is a charitable trust that operates nationwide in New Zealand. We work tirelessly to fund and shape research that can lead to a cure for Parkinson’s disease through global partnerships. Our organization grew out of the Neuro Research Charitable Trust, which was founded by Bernie and Kaye Crosby in 2013. With an experienced management team, supported by a dedicated Board of Trustees, an international Scientific Advisory Council, and a volunteer fundraising committee, we are committed to making a difference.
Parkinson’s disease affects more than 12,000 New Zealanders and over 10 million people worldwide. It slowly robs sufferers of their abilities to move, think, and perform everyday tasks. Unfortunately, current treatments can only relieve symptoms and cannot slow or stop the progression of the disease. However, new knowledge about Parkinson’s disease processes has led to the discovery of some promising candidate treatments. These treatments have the potential to stop or slow the progression of the disease, but further research and clinical trials are urgently needed to confirm their benefits and get them approved for use.
The research required to bring these promising treatments to the clinic is expensive. However, the cost of not conducting this research is much higher for patients, their families, healthcare systems, and economies. That is why we need your support to make it happen. By supporting Cure Parkinson’s NZ, you are contributing to the advancement of research and the potential for a cure.
On our webpage, you can find the latest updates on Parkinson’s research, as well as information about our organization and the activities of our supporters. Our CEO, Daniel McGowan, recently traveled to the UK and Europe, bringing back the latest research updates and forming strong connections. Exciting developments, such as a new biomarker for accurate diagnosis and a trial for a potential cough medication to slow Parkinson’s progression, are underway.
We are grateful for the generous donation of $100,000 for Parkinson’s research from the Greenlea family and their Greenlea Foundation Trust in December 2022. This support allows us to continue our vital work in finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
When it comes to finding a cure for Parkinson’s, it is important to note that there may not be a "silver bullet" treatment. However, there is good cause for hope. Cure Parkinson’s in the UK is at the forefront of global efforts to fight this disease, and we are thrilled to have established a partnership with them in October 2022.
Join us in our mission to shape and fuel effective research leading to a cure for Parkinson’s disease. Together, we can make a difference and bring hope to those affected by this debilitating condition.
