Don't just take our word for it, here are some reviews from our satisfied guests:
- "What a lovely place to stay, we had the upstairs suite with a view of the sea, amazing. The unit was clean, tidy, and very comfortable, and the windows opened right out so you could feel the sea breeze while having a drink before heading out for the night. Totally recommend a night or 2 for sure."
- "My boyfriend and I had the most wonderful time at the Cave Rock Guest House. The owners were extremely hospitable and lovely, the rooms were spacious and comfortable with stunning views of the sea, and we were so close to plenty of amenities, cafes, restaurants, and shopping centres. The peace and quiet of the place was the highlight of our holiday. We highly recommend this beautiful and restful guest house to anyone wishing to visit Sumner. You won't regret it! We will definitely be coming back."
- "Our hosts were really terrific, helpful, and made us feel right at home! Thank you for our early wake-up call on the tsunami warning. Luckily, it did not happen! Their home is situated amongst condos, however, it is very quiet! Their beautiful beach area is across the road, with many restaurants, pubs, and takeaways in the immediate area. A great place to stay for more than 2 nights, I would suggest a week at least! This B&B is self-serve, with all the food for a continental breakfast in your own room, a small fridge, BBQ, and a very comfortable sitting area outside. A grocery store is just a stone's throw away. A beautiful place to unwind and enjoy lots of rest and relaxation!"
- "We spent two nights here at the end of our time on South Island. The accommodation was perfect for our needs, and our hosts were very friendly and welcoming. We had everything we needed for a comfortable stay."
- "Nice and pretty quiet location. Friendly owner. The biggest downside was that the bed was just too small and too short. A well-meant suggestion for the owner is to do something about that. The bathroom is separated from the room by a hallway, not the worst, but an ensuite would definitely be more convenient. The room borders the kitchen of the owners, and that is what you can hear in the evening as well as the morning. Again, not the worst, but I think an owner should be aware of that."
- "Very nice spot right by the cave rock. We had a very late arrival, but Gayle made all the preparations needed so we could easily get in and go to bed after a long day of travel. Basic accommodations but very clean and nice. Would stay there again!"

"Stayed before. Lovely hosts. Beautiful area, room, and amenities."
"Absolute gem of a place to stay! Gayle and Norm (and Bruce Springstein their dog :)) were very friendly and accomodating. We stayed in the room beside the garage. it was spacious and very clean, the bed was super comfy. A little kitchenette which was perfect. There is a ceiling to floor window wall looking out to our private patio with an overhang. We sat there a few times including once when it rained, enjoying NZ wine and cheese. Sumner is a gorgeous little seaside town, with lots of places to eat and shop that are walking distance. We parked our car after 18 days of travelling around New Zealand and enjoyed 2 whole days of relaxation with no driving at all before our flight out. Across the street is the ocean with a huge beach and a cave! We walked the beach in the morning and again in the evenings. We went to watch the sunrise one morning sitting atop the cave rock formation, it was just spectacular- a memory that will stay with us forever. The restaurant next door has an amazing chef named Joseph who we met after having the best mussels and grouper fish dinner ever! We actually went back the next night for the same meal it was so good! We hope to be back one day :)"
"Such a beautiful home, set in gorgeous gardens, overlooking the beach, right in the heart of Sumner. Gracious, comfortable, spacious and scrupulously clean apartment, located upstairs within the owner's own home (not quite what we expected) but our hosts were absolutely lovely. We felt the bed could do with an upgrade but otherwise it was a really beautiful accommodation, and the views? To die for!"
"Sumner is a gem . Sea and surf exhilarating and just across the road from the guest house. Many local restaurants and bars and a regular, frequent bus service into Christchurch"
