Welcome to Kidsfirst Kindergartens The Bays, located in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our amazing new Kindergarten is nestled on the McCormacks Bay Reserve, under the majestic hill of Tauhinu-korokio, named after native shrubs that were once abundant in the area. With our large, tree-filled back yard and state-of-the-art playground, our kindergarten offers a distinctive character that draws inspiration from its wonderful setting and the iconic kindergarten philosophy.

When you step into Kidsfirst The Bays, you will be greeted with a warm welcome from our friendly tamariki (children) and teaching team. Our kindergarten was specifically designed for its coastal setting, with open-plan indoor spaces that offer stunning views across the estuary. The inside environment is spacious, light, and warm, beautifully decorated with our children's amazing learning and artwork.

Outside, our unique garden is a magical space filled with natural shade and inspiring areas for stories, games, or quiet moments. It is a wondrous place with native plantings, perfect for curious learners and creative imaginations. Children can explore challenging climbing and physical play equipment, inviting active exploration. Surrounded by the sounds of native birds and the beauty of the sea and bush, our outdoor features include expansive decking, a boardwalk, a native forest walk with stepping stones, and large climbing rocks surrounding a huge sandpit.

At Kidsfirst The Bays, we offer a program for children aged 2 to 5 years that places significance on our three curriculum priorities of inquiry learning, leadership, and holistic development. Our program is filled with spontaneity, humor, and joy, and we strongly emphasize sustainability. Children care for our three kindergarten hei hei (chickens), and our natural environment plays a significant role in our daily program, helping children develop eco-awareness and understand their role in preserving our planet.

Our dedicated teaching team is committed to creating partnerships with families and whānau (extended family). We aim to get to know you and your family well, nurturing authentic and trusting relationships. Family, relationships, history, and traditions are all important in supporting your child's learning journey.

Community and connectedness are at the heart of what we do. We love it when whānau come and share their skills, knowledge, language, and culture, enriching our program. We also take pride in exploring our local area and acting as caretakers (kaitiaki) of our environment.

Strong links with our local primary school help support a smooth transition to school for your child. We recommend enrolling for at least two full days initially, gradually building up to five days at your child's pace. This allows our teachers to get to know your child and provides consistency in supporting their learning.
