"What a place of paradise, no joggers, no gym workouts or crowds. We were greeted by staff who wanted us to be there. This is a heavenly place set apart for the welfare of our native flying friends. At times the birds come to you so you can take photos, there are plenty of loop tracks and attractions such as a tower to climb and averies. I will definetely be going again to do the mountain trek."
"Excellent experience. One of the world's largest pest free enclosures with 47km of maintained pest proof fencing. The walks are amazing - listen to the bird life as it was 100 years ago, amongst beautiful established native bush. There's a walk for everyone regardless of fitness level. You may even get a glimpse of the snowy mountains in the distance, from the car park. Bring warm clothing if visiting in winter!"
"One of the most gorgous places in nature ever !! Plenty of walking tracks -short and long. Without noticing we spent 2 hours there."
"We arrived at Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari in the afternoon. We could see predator deterrent fences along the bushline when parking in the car park. First impressions were "Wow, look at the massive nature reserve". The lady on duty this afternoon was awesume and very informative. We watched the video on how to use the double doors etc and loved the Huia in the foyer. We took our swipe cards and set off to enter the Southern End Enclosure. We went thru the shoe cleaning apparatus and quietly entered. We were in Sanctuary Mountain from just after 3pm til dusk just after 6pm. We managed to do the Rata, Rimu, Nika and Ponga Tracks, but not the Wairere Track. We heard lots of bird song but not alot of birds. We saw fantail/piwakawaka, the saddle back/tieke, a few weta's in the veiwing boxes attached to some trees, also some koura in the creek. We would loved to have had a visit from a Kākā up the Tower that gives you a birds eye perspective, but as you are not allowed to feed the Kākā's we had nothing to entice a photo opportunity. So we didn't see any of these beautiful parrots."
"Really impressive walk through the bush. Liz, our volunteer tour guide was very knowledgeable. It was a bit like jurassic park with the fence around the perimeter. The Flora and Fauna was just amazing. To sit and listen to all the, strange to me bird song was amazing. Highly recommend taking the accompanied tour. An excellent experience."
