Welcome to NHS - Rongo-Area Centre, located in Hamilton, Willoughby Street, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, we are proud to be a unique school that offers community and hospital-based teaching to school-aged students who are too unwell to attend their regular school.

At NHS - Rongo-Area Centre, we prioritize providing individualized programs that cater to the health and education needs of our students. Our integrated service sets us apart and allows our dedicated teachers to seamlessly support each student. We also have a close relationship with the other two health schools in New Zealand, making our service national in scope.

Our mission is to ensure that every learner, regardless of their health condition, location, or aspirations, receives a quality education. The voices and choices of our learners are central to everything we do. Our highly skilled staff are committed to delivering consistency and cohesiveness across the school.

Our values, Tō mātou whanonga pono, guide our approach to education. We are committed to learning and the learner (Te Mānawanui), with compassion inherent in all that we do (Ngākau Aroha). We strive for achievement through setting and achieving learner-centered goals (Mana Tutuki) and respect cultural diversity and each other (Ngākau Whakaute). We also believe in equity of opportunity for all learners (Mana Taurite).

We are proud to share the positive results of our recent Education Review Office review. The review highlights our strong performance in supporting students through individualized programs and developing links with local communities, including local Iwi. We have prioritized increasing the skills and capabilities of our staff and ourselves, with initiatives such as Beyond Diversity training and Te Tiriti o Waitangi training for the Board, leading to the adoption of a Te Tiriti Policy for the school.

We are particularly pleased with the focus on student wellbeing in the review. Our staff is dedicated to this important area, and it is also included in our charter goals. We ensure timely completion of the principal's performance appraisal and have updated policies mentioned in the report through our regular policy review cycle. We have a sound complaints policy framework and meeting procedure in place.

Reporting on student progress has always been a challenge for our school, given the relatively short periods of time students spend with us. However, we are actively working on implementing the Learning Progressions Framework as a tool to track student progress and analyze trends across various factors. This framework provides more detailed information for a larger number of students than ever before.
