Welcome to Patricia Avenue School, a specialist institution located at Hamilton, Patricia Avenue, 20 in New Zealand. We are an establishment and point of interest that focuses on providing quality education to children and young people with intellectual disabilities. Our students range from 5 to 21 years old.

Although our base school is situated in Patricia Avenue in Hamilton East, more than half of our students are in satellite classes. We have primary age students learning at Melville Primary, Silverdale Normal, and Woodstock Primary schools. Intermediate students attend Marian School, Fairfield Intermediate, and Cambridge Middle School, while secondary students study at Melville High School and Te Awamutu College. Additionally, we have a tertiary group of students learning in a community-based setting in Clifton Road in the CBD. To further support ORS funded students and their teachers in mainstream schools, we also run a Specialist Teacher Outreach Service (STOS).

At Patricia Avenue School, we believe in a holistic approach to education. Our therapy team, consisting of speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, a music therapist, psychologist, and music specialist, works closely with our teachers, learning support assistants, and families to support student learning.

We value the partnerships we develop with our students' parents, caregivers, and whanau, as they are central to our school's culture. By working together, we aim to provide the best possible learning opportunities for our students, ensuring they reach their true potential.

In 2015, we completed a major upgrade of our base school infrastructure, allowing us to offer a range of specialist learning environments. These include a sensory room, music room, exercise room, student library, and a large multipurpose room. Additionally, we have added two new classrooms, upgraded the student kitchen, and improved all existing classrooms.

We are currently in the process of electing a new Board of Trustees and encourage all parents and caregivers to consider standing for the Board. This rewarding role provides opportunities to support the school and make a real difference for all of our students and their families.
