Punting On The Avon (Antigua Boat Sheds) 2 Cambridge Terrace, Christchurch Central City, Christchurch, Canterbury 8013
About the Business
Welcome to Punting On The Avon, an iconic Christchurch attraction that should not be missed during your visit to New Zealand. Situated at 2 Cambridge Terrace, our establishment offers a unique and relaxing experience that allows you to see the city from a different perspective.
Choose between our two fantastic sites: the Antigua Boat Sheds landing, where you can float through the tranquil Botanic Gardens, or the Worcester Bridge landing, which offers a view of the evolving central city's Avon River Precinct (please note that this site is currently closed until 13 September 2023).
When you arrive for your punting experience, please ensure that you are at the correct location and arrive at least 15 minutes before your booking time. A safety briefing will be provided before you embark on your punt ride, which departs promptly at the scheduled time. Please note that guests who do not arrive on time will not receive a refund.
Punting is an all-weather activity, and we provide blankets, umbrellas, and even hot water bottles in winter at our Antigua Boat Sheds site. You will enter and leave the punt by stepping onto a secure platform, and please be aware that the punt seats are very low to the ground, similar to sitting on the floor.
At our Antigua Boat Sheds site, you will have the opportunity to get up close to the flora and wildlife of the Botanic Gardens while enjoying a relaxing ride. Each punt can accommodate up to 8 people, and we highly recommend booking in advance to secure your spot.
Our Worcester Bridge site, located near the corner of Worcester Boulevard and Oxford Terrace, offers a different perspective of the central city. As you glide along the Avon River, you will pass by Te Pae Christchurch, the Christchurch Town Hall, Victoria Square, and Margaret Mahy Playground. The rides end at the Town Hall landing in Victoria Square. Punts at this site can accommodate up to 6 people, and advanced booking is highly recommended.
In addition to the punting experience, we also have a Gondola Shop where you can purchase souvenirs, gifts, greeting cards, and more at reasonable prices. Our shop also offers everyday bargain sales, allowing you to buy quality products for a cheaper price.
If you're looking for more to do in Christchurch, we recommend visiting the summit of Mt Cavendish, where you can experience the Christchurch Discovery Ride and enjoy stunning views of the city, ocean, Southern Alps, and Lyttelton Harbour. Our unique Gondola function venue is also available for weddings, dinners, conferences, or meetings.
Don't just take our word for it, here are some reviews from our satisfied guests: "Such a relaxing way to spend some time on a nice afternoon," "Unique historical and informative," and "A must-go place in CHCH."
We are proud to be Qualmark Gold accredited for our top safety and operating practices, and since 2005, we have been owned and operated by local Kiwi families. Your satisfaction is our priority, and we want to ensure that your visit to Punting On The Avon is everything it should be.
Visit us at 109 Worcester St (Shop 13) Cathedral Junction Christchurch 8011, New Zealand, and embark on a memorable punting experience that will showcase the beauty of Christchurch from the peaceful Avon River.

Reviews
"Easter weekend, shared a moment with my daughter, was so lovely and the guides are so friendly, informative, the history they share whilst on the beautiful ride, felt super safe on the water and highly recommend"
"Great relaxing hour. Beautiful surroundings, great ambience. Good introduction by guide to the plants and mostly ducks. Seats were comfortable although the bottom of the boat is shallow to the seats, so those with knee problems just need to take care sitting down. The noon wind was quite cold walking up to the shed but it felt like the wind was largely blocked out through the trip, and they also give warm lap blankets. Didn't get a chance to kayak but it looked do-able even on a pretty cold day and without any fancy gear. Bought these tix with the tram combo, was a good deal especially with the hotel giving us additional discount vouchers, so check if your hotel has them!"
"We turned up not knowing that we should have booked in advance We were accommodated later on in the day, which was great. This gave us plenty of time to walk around the city then have a bite to eat at the Cafe next door. The punter was very informative, the trip itself very relaxing."
