Welcome to Craythorne's Public House, located at Christchurch, Halswell Road, 344. Our establishment is a bar, restaurant, and lodging facility, making it the perfect place for a variety of occasions. The history of Craythorne's dates back to 1863 when Mary and William Craythorne opened a sod hut with a thatched roof and dirt floor as an ale house. William brewed his own draught ale using a recipe he brought from England. Over the years, the business grew and became known as Mother Craythorne's pub.

In 1871, Tom Mullin's purchased the business and replaced the sod hut with a two-storey hotel, which stood as the Halswell Junction Hotel until 1954 when it was partially destroyed by fire. In 2011, the current proprietors, Brian and Ina Hall, restored the historical site and reopened it as a hotel with 12 ensuite guest rooms.

We are proud to celebrate the 150th anniversary of having a pub on this site in 2013. This rich history adds to the charm and character of Craythorne's Public House.

As a venue, we offer a range of services. Our facility is available for small meetings or private dining functions, accommodating up to 12 people. It is fully air-conditioned and equipped with internet access and a 55-inch flat-screen television, making it ideal for corporate events or time-out from the office. The sliding doors open to a small deck and a beautifully landscaped lawn area.

Mother Craythorns Kitchen provides on-site catering, offering a wide selection of morning and afternoon teas, working lunches, and dinners. Our bar facilities are also available to enhance your event.

In addition to our regular services, we are excited to be the home for all Rugby World Cup games during the months of September and October. We have big screens where you can watch the games live and loud. A small breakfast menu will be available for morning games, so you can enjoy a delicious meal while cheering on your favorite team.
