At Mothercraft, we offer a comprehensive five-day program of 24-hour support and education, specifically designed to assist parents who may be facing challenges such as feeding difficulties, reflux, unsettled babies, infant colic, poor weight gain, and sleep issues. Our team of qualified and highly experienced nurses work closely alongside caregivers and families to develop personalized care plans that cater to individual needs.

During your stay at Mothercraft, you can expect to receive top-notch care from our dedicated staff. Our service is further supported by a range of healthcare professionals, including pediatric medical staff, social workers, dietitians, lactation consultants, perinatal maternal mental health experts, and home care nurses.

As part of the Children's Health service and the Women's and Children's Health directorate, Mothercraft operates from the Waiora Waikato Hospital Campus in Hamilton. Our facility boasts a comfortable and inviting environment, with private rooms equipped with a single bed and a cot or bassinet for your baby. Depending on availability, your baby may also have their own room. We provide shared bathroom and kitchen facilities, as well as a lounge and dining area for your convenience. Additionally, we have a small fully fenced outdoor area for you and your visitors to enjoy.

During your stay, all meals for you and your baby will be provided. We take into consideration any dietary restrictions or allergies and ensure suitable options are available. We also offer facilities for breastfeeding or bottle feeding, including a separate room for expressing milk with hospital-grade medulla breast pumps. If you prefer, you are welcome to bring your own breast pump. We provide containers for storing breast milk and have a separate fridge dedicated to storing breast milk or prepared formula.

At Mothercraft, we understand that every baby is unique, and we are equipped to support various feeding methods, including nasogastric tube or gastrostomy feeding. We provide necessary supplies and equipment, such as sterilizing equipment, storage containers, and baby essentials like prams, buggies, baby baths, and toys.

Our institution also extends its services to parents and caregivers who may be experiencing exhaustion, post-natal depression, and anxiety. We believe in holistic care and aim to address both the physical and emotional well-being of both parents and babies.

Referrals to Mothercraft can be made by general practitioners, pediatricians, Plunket nurses, well-child health nurses, midwives, maternal mental health experts, or support agencies involved in your care. For clients outside the Waikato DHB region, a referral from a pediatrician or DHB Mental Health is required.

Please note that all referrals go through the Regional Referral Centre at Waikato DHB, and there may be a time delay of approximately 3-5 days before the referral is received at Mothercraft. Rest assured, our team will triage the referral promptly upon receipt.
