One of the highlights of Spencer Park is its family-friendly environment that welcomes dogs. However, please ensure that your furry friends are under effective control and on a leash in certain areas to protect the wildlife values of the park. Dogs are not permitted in Brooklands Lagoon or Spit, except on the Waimakariri Walkway where they must be on a short leash. During the summer months, there are specific dog rules in place at Spencer Park Beach to ensure the safety and comfort of all visitors.
This adventure playground offers a variety of attractions, including a small animal enclosure, a children's adventure playground, a paddling pool, and many interesting short walks. To discover more about the park and its offerings, you can refer to the Spencer Park and Brooklands Lagoon brochure.
For fishing and whitebaiting enthusiasts, permits and keys can be obtained from the Spencer Beach Kiwi Holiday Park during office hours. However, if you plan to drive a vehicle on the beach, please stick to the hard sand to avoid damaging plants and disturbing the local wildlife.
Adjacent to Spencer Park, you'll find the Spencer Beach Kiwi Holiday Park, which offers a wide range of accommodation options. To make a booking or inquire about availability, visit their website.
If you're a nature lover, don't miss the opportunity to explore Brooklands Lagoon and the coastal path, which provide longer walks and fantastic bird-watching opportunities. Just south of the park, Bottle Lake Forest Park offers plenty of horse and biking routes for outdoor enthusiasts.
For those seeking a tranquil picnic spot with easy vehicle access and proximity to the beach, Spencer Park is the perfect choice. The park features numerous picnic spots and free barbeques. While you can't book a barbeque, you can reserve a picnic space for up to 50 people. If you're planning a publicly advertised gathering of more than 50 people, an event permit may be required.
The beach is just a short walk or drive away from the main park, and safe swimming is available between the flags at the Surf Life Saving Club during the summer months.
Brooklands Lagoon, located just north of Spencer Park, is an essential part of the wetland ecosystem along the central Canterbury coast. It serves as a habitat for various wildlife, including insects, invertebrates, fish, native plants, and over 74 species of wetland birds. To learn more about the history and environment of this area, you can visit the Coastal Restoration Trust website.
Lastly, Seafield Wildlife Park, situated directly opposite the main gate into Spencer Park, offers a unique opportunity to get up close with small animals and birds. With over 30 years of operation, this park has played a crucial role in preserving rare breeds of animals, such as Arapawa Island goats and pigs. Today, you can still see Arapawa sheep and kune kune pigs, along with other small animals and an array of birds.
We kindly ask that you treat all wildlife with respect and refrain from feeding the birds. Come and experience the wonders of Spencer Park Adventure Playground, where nature, adventure, and family fun await you!

Reviews
"Great place, lots to do, very popular. Beautiful scenery"
"Very beautiful garden. Very Big and well maintained. This is best place to spend time on weekends or for picnic with your family and friends. It is nearby bottle neck forest so you can also walk around it. The best thing of this garden is that they provide oven for BBQ which was surprising for me and it is free. So you can carry on your food and prepare there. On weekends it might be crowded so go early to make sure that you get a place. Beach is at 200m walking distance."
"Great place for the kids! Equipment in good repair except for the digger in the sandpit. Lots of climbing places. Great flying fox, and low ropes to play on. A few sets of swings and a cool spider web to climb. There is a fenced toddler paddling pool for summer. Dogs allowed but need to be on a lease. No rubbish bins as you have to take it all away with you. Good covered spots near by to BBQ and eat lunch."
"We use to love going but went the other day and it was really sad. The playground wasn't maintained 2 of the flying foxes were broken. we weren't there for long that's for sure maybe in summer they will put more time into upkeep"
