Welcome to Kidsfirst Kindergartens Cotswold, located in the heart of Bishopdale, Christchurch. Situated right next door to Cotswold Primary School, our kindergarten offers a big and beautiful, leafy environment for children to explore and learn.

Our backyard is a haven for curious learners and creative imaginations. With a variety of challenging climbing and physical play equipment, children have ample opportunities for active exploration and physical development. Our large play spaces and specially designed equipment support children's growth and development.

At Kidsfirst Kindergartens Cotswold, we believe in providing real-life experiences for children. They have the opportunity to use a range of tools and resources such as saws, hammers, nails, gardening equipment, spades, and shovels, learning about managing risk and making safe choices. Our outdoor spaces also provide areas for running, jumping, climbing, swinging, and exploring, as well as peaceful spots to connect with nature and understand our natural world.

In our garden, Rongo, Haumia, and Tawhirimatea stand proud, symbolizing our commitment to educating children about their contribution to the natural world. We use innovative methods to teach sustainable practices and instill a sense of responsibility and care for all living things. We aim to raise kaitiaki (guardians) of our environment.

At Kidsfirst Kindergartens Cotswold, children connect with each other and learn through play. They work alongside their peers, making choices that engage them with the people, places, and things in our environment and community. Our inclusive program encourages risk-taking and supports children's emerging interests. Learning occurs at each child's pace, acknowledging their unique qualities and contributions.

We foster mindfulness and inspiration in our children, encouraging them to be respectful of the environment they play and learn in. Our focus is on the people – tamariki (children), whānau (family), kaiako (teachers), and community – all working together to help children grow into competent and confident individuals. We value the links between kindergarten and home, and you are always welcome here.

Community and connectedness are at the core of our values. We embrace multiculturalism and diversity, and we look forward to making new connections and having whānau share their skills and interests with the children to extend their learning. We often explore the local community, learning more about our place in it. Visits to local schools also help children develop an understanding of the school setting and support their transition.

We recommend enrolling your child for at least two full days initially, gradually building up to five days at their own pace. This allows our teachers to get to know your child and build a strong relationship, while also providing consistency in supporting their learning.
