Welcome to Kidsfirst Kindergartens Trengrove, located in the heart of the Ilam community in Christchurch, New Zealand. Tucked away down a long drive opposite the local shopping center, our kindergarten is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

Trengrove is a recently renovated space that radiates brightness and warmth, providing a welcoming environment for children aged 2 to 5 years. Our philosophy revolves around place-based education, which connects our tamariki (children) to our local heritage, landscape, cultures, and experiences reflective of our multicultural and diverse community.

Inside our kindergarten, you'll find a spacious and light-filled environment that encourages calmness, openness, and exploration. This environment respects and nurtures the mana, wairua, and mauri that our tamariki bring with them. We inspire our children to be mindful of the world around them and to develop a deep sense of respect for the environment they play and learn in.

Our beautiful backyard is designed to promote interactions with nature, offering wide open spaces for children to challenge and develop their physical capabilities through active exploration. With grassy areas, barked spaces, gardens, and specially designed equipment, our backyard supports children's physical growth and development. It's a space that ignites curiosity through natural discoveries, changing seasons, and the presence of insects and birds.

At Kidsfirst Kindergartens Trengrove, we empower tamariki to make their own choices and take responsibility for their learning in a safe and supportive environment. They are encouraged to take risks, develop independence, collaborate with their peers, embrace diversity, and solve problems. Our kindergarten celebrates the identity, language, and culture of all children, whānau (families), kaiako (teachers), and the wider community, building on a strong bicultural foundation.

We foster whanaungatanga, which emphasizes respectful and reciprocal relationships, creating support systems that enhance our tamariki's learning experiences. We also have close relationships with local schools, ensuring a smooth transition for your child when the time comes.

We recommend enrolling your child for at least two full days initially, gradually increasing to five days at their own pace. This approach allows our teachers to get to know your child and provides consistency in supporting their learning journey.
