Welcome to Kidsfirst Kindergartens Mairehau, located at 23 Fergusson Avenue in Christchurch, New Zealand. Our kindergarten is nestled at the end of a quiet street, close to two local primary schools. Here, lifelong friendships begin for children aged 2-5 years.

At Kidsfirst Kindergartens Mairehau, we follow the New Zealand early childhood curriculum, "Te Whāriki," which focuses on strengthening early learning and laying a solid foundation for future success. Our dedicated teachers plan the program and focus areas based on the aspirations of the children and their families, with the children actively participating in the planning process, giving them a sense of ownership and a voice.

As you step through our doors, you will immediately feel the calm and friendly wairua (spirit) that permeates our environment. Our kindergarten is light and warm, adorned with the children's artwork on the walls. Outside, our playground offers a lush, green and natural landscape with various physical challenges and activities that spark the imagination, providing endless opportunities for your child's curiosity and exploration. It is truly a big, beautiful surprise in our backyard!

Our program places a strong emphasis on social competency, teaching children how to get along well with others, form and maintain relationships, and respond adaptively in social settings. We also focus on developing literacy, the arts, physical prowess, and fostering interactions with the natural world, teaching children about their place and responsibilities within it.

We believe that parents and whānau (extended family) play a crucial role in a child's development. We encourage parents to actively contribute in many ways, including discussions about their aspirations for their children, spending time with us during sessions, sharing their knowledge and strengths with our teachers and children, and enriching our program. If you have the time, you are welcome to join our Kindergarten parent group, where you can help plan and promote fundraising events while making friendships with others. We have a close-knit community with generations of families passing through our doors, and we take pride in our connections with the wider educational community, particularly the local primary schools, as we support your child's transition to school.

We recommend enrolling your child for at least two full days initially, gradually building up to five days at their own pace. This allows our teachers to get to know your child and provides consistency in supporting their learning.
