Welcome to the Gallagher Academy of Performing Arts, located in the vibrant city of Hamilton, New Zealand. As an establishment and point of interest, our institution is dedicated to nurturing talent and providing a platform for artistic expression.
One of the upcoming events at our academy is the art exhibition titled "Emily Karaka: Matariki Ring of Fire." Running from June 26, 2023, to October 20, 2023, this exhibition celebrates the festival of Matariki, the Matariki star cluster, and the Tūpuna Maunga of the Tāmaki Makaurau region. It also acknowledges the artist's connection to Waikato and the Kīngitanga.
Another exciting event is our Lunchtime Recital Series, taking place from September 6, 2023, to October 18, 2023. This series showcases the talent of music students from The University of Waikato and visiting performers. Prepare to be inspired and delighted by solo and chamber instrumental works, as well as a variety of vocal repertoire.
If you're a fan of classical music, don't miss the Concerto Competition Final on September 7, 2023, at 7:00 PM. Come and support our brilliant finalists Celia Griffiths, Ashleigh Fraser, and Fergus Byett as they perform their complete concertos with piano accompaniment by Francis Cowan. It promises to be an evening of musicality, artistry, and pure delight.
For those who appreciate harmony singing, mark your calendars for Classic Harmony on September 9, 2023, at 2:00 PM. Get ready for a feast of beautiful harmonies that will leave you spellbound.
Opera enthusiasts will be thrilled by the performance of "Dido & Aeneas" from September 22, 2023, to September 24, 2023, at 7:00 PM. Presented by the Waikato Conservatorium of Music, this production showcases the splendor of Purcell, featuring "DIDO & AENEAS" and selected masques by Henry Purcell.
If you're looking for something unique, be sure to attend the NZ Amateur Pole Performance on September 23, 2023, at 1:00 PM. This competition provides amateurs with the opportunity to showcase their skills, win amazing prizes, and demonstrate their achievements in this wonderful sport.
For a night of dazzling dance performances, join us for the Sparkle Dance Extravaganza on September 30, 2023, at 7:00 PM. Organized by the Waikato Dance Performance Trust, this extravaganza is a must-see event.
Music lovers will be enthralled by "Somi Kim: Mozart and More" on October 13, 2023, at 7:30 PM. Join music director Peter Walls and Opus Orchestra for an unforgettable concert, where Somi's extraordinary talent meets the timeless compositions of Mozart, with a playful twist of Prokofiev.
Fans of traditional Irish music will rejoice at the reunion of the renowned Trad group Gráda. On October 20, 2023, at 7:30 PM, they will be performing at our academy as part of their 9-date tour across New Zealand.
To top it all off, the award-winning Waikato Rivertones Chorus presents "On Track to Kentucky" on October 21, 2023, at 7:00 PM. This evening showcase of spectacular vocal harmony features special guest NZ singer-songwriter Anna Hawkins.
