Vaginal atrophy, now known as the Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause, is a condition that can occur during perimenopause or after menopause, and may even affect younger women. Symptoms include dryness, burning, irritation, lack of lubrication during intercourse, discomfort or pain with intercourse, urgency, dysuria (burning on passing urine), recurrent urinary tract infections, and even pelvic organ prolapse.

Our clinic is proud to offer a radical new therapy for the treatment of these symptoms. Laser treatment, which has long been used for facial rejuvenation, is now available for vaginal rejuvenation. The Mona Lisa Touch treatment effectively addresses the symptoms of the Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause, including dryness, dyspareunia, prolapse, vaginal laxity, burning, and itching.

This exciting alternative to Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) takes just 5 minutes and is generally pain-free. Unlike HRT, it has none of the systemic complications associated with hormone therapy and allows patients to return to their normal activities immediately. Many patients notice an improvement within days of just one Mona Lisa treatment, but we recommend a series of 3 treatments, spaced a month to 6 weeks apart, for optimal results. After treatment, patients are usually able to perform their normal daily duties immediately, although sexual activity should be restricted for 5 days.

The Mona Lisa Touch treatment uses a carbon dioxide fractional laser specifically designed to treat vaginal tissue. Similar to laser facial treatments, the procedure creates micro-abrasions or tiny scratches in the vaginal wall, stimulating the growth of new blood vessels. Most women tolerate the treatment well, with very few side effects. Some may experience temporary side effects such as mild vaginal bleeding, discharge, tenderness, itching, or burning.

Our consultation fee is $150.00, which can be deducted from the cost of treatment if you choose to proceed. Each treatment costs $800, or you can opt for a series of 3 treatments for $2000 (paid upfront). Most women require 3 treatments in the first year and annual treatments thereafter. Please note that Mona Lisa Touch is not covered by insurance.

Some women may experience a watery discharge or light spotting for a day or two after treatment, and the vaginal area may feel swollen or full. It is important to avoid inserting anything into the vagina for at least 5 days after treatment, as removing the microscabs in the vagina can cause bleeding or infection. Additionally, baths and jacuzzis should be avoided during this time.
