Welcome to Howick Playcentre, a family co-operative located at 98 Nelson Street, Auckland, New Zealand. At our establishment, we have a holistic approach to early childhood education, where child-initiated play and parents as first educators are of paramount importance.

Our centre prides itself on being welcoming, friendly, and culturally diverse. We provide a safe, nurturing, and creative environment for tamariki (children) and whānau (family), and we are committed to biculturalism. The education of our children is at the heart of our centre community.

We are open from 9am-12pm at the centre on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. On Tuesdays, we have our Nature Day, where we explore different parts of our community each week.

At Howick Playcentre, we strongly value the Playcentre philosophy of families growing together. Therefore, we require all preschool children in the family to attend a minimum of two sessions per week.

Children learn through play! When you visit Howick Playcentre, you will find a nurturing environment where our tamariki are supported to play, explore, discover, create, and grow. We believe that child-initiated play allows children to become confident and competent self-directed learners. Our dedication to the Playcentre philosophy ensures that our children continually build warm relationships with adults and their peers.

Our parents and families actively participate in the running of our centre and sessions. Adults are supported on their Playcentre journey as they grow their knowledge of early childhood education through the Playcentre Adult Education programme. This enables us to provide high-quality sessions and self-license our centre on some days.

When you step inside Howick Playcentre, you are no longer just a parent, you are an educator to all of the children. Each family/parent holds a role in helping run the centre efficiently and is offered a wealth of support during their journey as part of a parent co-operative.

In addition to our educational programs, we also have a yearly summer camp attended by past and present members. We also organize many fun and relaxed social events for the whole family throughout the year. Come be a part of our village and join in the fun!
