Welcome to Doris Nicholson Kindergarten, located at Upper Hutt, Fergusson Drive, 1122. As an establishment and point of interest in New Zealand, our kindergarten is dedicated to nurturing the land and environment, embodying the principle of Manaaki Whenua. We believe in moving forward together in our learning, embracing the concept of Haere Whakamua.

As you make your way up our long driveway, you will be greeted by the sounds of laughter from both adults and children. Our kindergarten is a place for everyone, where families and whānau come together to nourish our community and foster growth and strength.

At Doris Nicholson Kindergarten, we encourage children to become lifelong learners. They are given the opportunity to investigate the world around them, take risks, discover new things, and gain confidence. We see children as adventurers who both teach and learn from one another.

Visiting our kindergarten, you will witness our philosophy of manaakitanga, which encompasses respect for all things. Alongside English, we also incorporate New Zealand Sign Language and Te Reo Maori into our daily activities. We believe in creating an inclusive environment that supports the individual needs of children and their families.

We also strive to make connections with our wider community and local iwi. We celebrate and share different cultures and customs, embracing the diversity that makes us unique. Fun is an integral part of our approach, as we believe that learning should be enjoyable.

Doris Nicholson Kindergarten was named after Doris Turner Nicholson, who served as Upper Hutt's mayor from 1970 to 1977. To enroll your child, simply drop by and see us during playtime.
