"Patrick Daniels incorrectly diagnosed my traumatic brain injury symptoms as an anxiety disorder. I lost my ACC cover, rehab support and my chance of a fair recovery. His mistake was eventually quashed under the Accident Compensation Act. I have now recovered. It has taken me 5 years to get to the point where I wanted to write this review. I hope it will help others, including Daniels. I suffered a brain injury and associated neck injury 8 years ago. I had a permanent headache for 2 years, cognitive impairment, and fatigue. I struggled to get better so ACC eventually sent me to Daniels. We met and he asked me a variety of questions, mainly autobiographical. He didn’t undertake any objective testing. After our meeting he produced a report that stated my symptoms (including pain) were because of a generalized anxiety disorder, and they could not be accounted for by my injury. Because of this, I lost the support of ACC which I really needed for rehab. I had to quit my career and vocation in the environmental field, and I suffered immense and needless physical, emotional, and financial pain. Daniels’ report contained multiple inaccuracies, important omissions and factual errors (over 30 in total). An example was his statement that my family had a “strong history of bipolar disorder” – a key component of his diagnosis of me. I had told him that I thought my great uncle may’ve been bipolar, but that I wasn’t completely sure. It beggars belief. Due to the overall inadequacy of his report, I assume Daniels retrospectively cherry picked the information I gave him, blurred some, and excluded some to massage it all into his best guess and ultimately incorrect diagnosis. When my case was reviewed under the Accident Compensation Act, and Daniels' report was scrutinised, the reviewer stated - I am not satisfied that I can give weight to this report, as ACC has done. Damning indeed. I say incorrect diagnosis confidently, because I subsequently went to a Neuropsychiatrist for reassessment – Dr Greg Finucane. Dr Finucane assessed me objectively using PAI – Personality Assessment Inventory - “This objective inventory of adult personality assesses psychopathological syndromes and provides information relevant for clinical diagnosis, treatment planning, and screening for psychopathology. Since its introduction, the PAI has been heralded as one of the most important innovations in the field of clinical assessment.” Dr Finucane’s detailed and objective assessment of me showed ‘no abnormalities on PAI, and in particular this well-validated tool does not show evidence for generalised anxiety disorder.” This and multiple other strands of evidence were used to appeal my case. Eventually after ACC were ordered to support me, and treat me for my head injury, I recovered and I think I am now back to normal. I feel Daniels needs to take a course on traumatic brain injuries as a minimum, and consider using objective testing in addition to his other methodologies so he can look beyond his bias for detecting anxiety orders, his specialty. Doctors need to be objective and open. Overall I don’t believe his skills are adequate as evidenced by the fact he clearly got it wrong with me (and likely others see below). I also think his partiality needs to be reviewed. It would also seem he is suspicious of malingerers. His ratemymd page has seven instances of people giving 1 star reviews with multiple accusations that Daniels has misrepresented them. Finally, I just wanted to say Patrick, you got your diagnosis of me wrong and your error had a massive impact on me. In the past I was convinced you played the role of a hatchet-man for ACC. I may be wrong about that, only you know if your integrity is any good. Either way, I feel like the way you approached your assessment of me and the corresponding report was really unprofessional, and I want you to know that what you write has a massive ripple effect, so don’t take it lightly. I forgive you, and I hope if you read this that you are truly sorry, and take action not to make the same mistakes."
"Have been coming here for almost a year now. Patrick Daniels has been amazing and we have found him professional, kind and understanding. The reception staff are lovely and helpful."
"I've been seeing Dr Russell Wyness for over a year now. I have always found him very easy to talk to and he listens to my concerns and involves me in treatment options. I have had both in person and zoom appointments with him. Any time we make a medication change he always asks me to text or call him over the next few days so he can see how I'm going. My last psychatrist did not accept calls outside of appointments so I couldn't discuss medication side effects with him (terrible), so I very much appreciate how easy to contact Russell is and how he really does want to know how medications are going for people. It is often quite a wait for an initial appointment or a general follow up (2-3 months), but I did need an urgent appoinment recently and I was able to see him via Zoom on the same day. The receptionsts are not always warm and friendly, but they are not rude and are very helpful in regards to urgent appointments, making any follow up appointments or repeat prescriptions."
"stay away. spent the better part of a year waiting for an appointment due to covid etc. when my appointment was finally coming up I recieved a call to confirm my appointment and whether Id like an in person appointment or one via zoom which I confirmed Id like an in person appointment. I was asked have I been vaccinated and told them I'd had my first dose. which they told me was no issue. I then received an email a day before my appointment with another confirmation of my "zoom appointment". when emailing back to remind them that Id confirmed for in person and not via zoom I was told "This will be possible but only if you are double vaxed and if you have not been in contact with anyone who has tested covid positive in the last 14 days" . Every single interaction with this place was terrible, having my appointment booked for a date and time then in later contact the appointment date they'd recorded was completely different to what id booked. then re-book again due to covid and they record my appointment time incorrectly again - this time by only 30 minutes but the point is whoever runs the phones and emails is unable to do anything properly it seems."
"Russell Wyness did not take the time to read the information ACC sent him. He has written an assessment based on God knows what! He broke confidentially by having his doors open to a shared patio. He answered his phone in the middle of an assessment. I certainly do not recommend this doctor or practise."
