Mary Potter Hospice Shop - Porirua 21 Kenepuru Drive, Kenepuru, Porirua, Wellington 5022
About the Business
Welcome to Mary Potter Hospice Shop - Porirua! Located at 21 Kenepuru Drive in Porirua, our shop is a point of interest and a store that supports a local charity called Mary Potter Hospice. Our charity provides specialist palliative care services for people living in Wellington, Porirua, and Kāpiti.
At Mary Potter Hospice, we are dedicated to providing equitable, compassionate, and free-of-charge hospice care. Our team of specialist doctors, nurses, therapists, and family support teams work together to support your wellbeing in every way possible. We believe in taking a whole person approach, offering quality palliative care, grief support, and care planning services.
As an organization, we are committed to authentic partnership under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and strive to improve outcomes for Māori and Pacific people in our care. We also inform and support health professionals in our local communities to achieve the best possible palliative care.
Being a local charity, we rely on the generosity of others to keep our services free. There are various ways you can support Mary Potter Hospice, whether it's through donations in memory or appreciation, or simply because you believe in the work we do. We also offer volunteering opportunities where you can gain experience, skills, and satisfaction while making a positive difference.
Additionally, you can help us turn secondhand goods into first-class care by shopping with us or donating goods. We even provide a free collection service for large items. By doing so, you contribute to the ongoing support and care we provide to our community.
Our volunteers play a crucial role in our organization. Ashwin, for example, enjoys the friendly and warm environment at our Inpatient Unit in Newtown, where he volunteers. Lucy is a regular and long-serving volunteer who helps with donated books for the Newlands Hospice shop and Warehouse. Mark Young has been a volunteer biographer in Kāpiti, recording the stories of Hospice patients for two and a half years.
Mary Potter Hospice is registered as a charity, with the Mary Potter Hospice Foundation, Forever Foundation, and Mary Potter Apartments Limited being registered charities as well. We are also an Inland Revenue-approved donee organization and members of the Fundraising Institute of New Zealand and the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association.
Thank you for considering supporting Mary Potter Hospice. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those in need of palliative care in our community.

Reviews
"Lovely staff, fairly priced items. Love supporting your Porirua Store!"
"Always a good place to browse. Neat, clean and friendly, and you never know what you may find."
"Great shop - amazing staff These people are doing their best to have a place that is safe and healthy for all who enter. They are friendly and the store itself has some great bargains!"
"Very disappointed in this shop for discriminating against people with health or disability reasons for not being able to wear a face covering. They are not following government guidelines and have decided themselves if you have a health reason for not wearing a mask then you must have a COVID vaccine certificate. Yet mandates for the vaccine certificate don’t apply to those that can wear masks or children. Only people with health or disability reasons are stopped and confronted in the shop. No one else. It’s a retail shop, not a medical facility and such rules breach guidelines and is indirect discrimination under the human rights act. The signage is not clear one bit. Face masks alone don’t stop COVID spread, so to stop people with medical issues entering but still letting kids in, and saying ‘but they aren’t mandated..’ does not ‘protect’ staff. Kids are the super spreaders. This is the first retail store I’ve ever experienced such bizarre rules and humiliating treatment from staff. Keep clear of this op shop if you want to be treated with respect and dignity."
"Great shop well presented something for everyone . Manager is an asset to the Hospice, great customer service skills and engaging"
