About the Business
Welcome to The Beer Engine, a bar and restaurant located at 31 Whitehouse Road in Porirua, New Zealand. This establishment is not just your average bar, but a project that has been in the making for decades. The Beer Engine was born from the collaboration of beer engineers Dale Gould and Oliver Smith, who met over lunch to discuss their plans for a post-lockdown world.
In New Zealand, beer has always been an integral part of society, but it is only recently that home-brewing and home-distilling have turned into professions. However, with a saturated market and limited production spaces, many aspiring brewers and beer enthusiasts have been unable to bring their ideas to life. This is where The Beer Engine comes in.
Our goal is to create a platform where these ideas and visions can be realized. We have created a maker space that can be used by both established brands and aspiring homebrewers, as well as a retail and bar space to showcase the products of these ventures. You can expect to see familiar names as well as new and exciting products from up-and-coming producers.
At The Beer Engine, we pride ourselves on presenting the products we sell with the same passion and care as those who made them. Our Taphouse has been designed with beer lovers in mind, showcasing the beautiful products that come from our brewery and the brands we work with. With 8 taps and soon-to-be-operational handpumps, we offer a rotating selection of the finest small batch beers in the country. We also have a small range of New Zealand wines, locally made gins, non-alcoholic options, and more.
Our cozy 20-seater Taproom is the perfect place to enjoy our offerings, or you can choose to relax in our courtyard, a hidden sun-trap away from the mall's hustle and bustle. We are child-friendly and welcome furry friends, offering facilities to make them feel as welcome as their humans.
But The Beer Engine is not just a bar and restaurant. We also cater to commercial brewers looking to tinker or take the next step, community groups in search of their own unique products, and even large weddings. Our team of brewers and hydromechanic tech can assist with recipe and product development, sourcing, manufacture, and finishing. If you are truly serious about your brewing aspirations, we can arrange further steps to help you achieve your goals.
All our tap products are either made in-house or sourced from local small producers and makers. Our gin comes from a distillery in Kapiti, just up the coast, and our wines are from small New Zealand producers. We have also partnered with one of the finest cafes in the city, Tbay Cafe, whose burgers and brunches are legendary and pair perfectly with our delicious offerings.
Located just a 4-minute walk from the surf and sand of Titahi Bay, The Beer Engine is the ideal spot to enjoy a pint after a refreshing swim. So come and join us at The Beer Engine, where we aim to provide the ultimate premium beer experience in the region. Let us transport you to another world, free of inhibitions and worries, and indulge in the finest craft beers New Zealand has to offer.
