"Great hidden beach on a gravel road but still not too far form auckland CBD.we were lucky enough to see this beautiful place on our last day in NZ and it did not disappoint. Decent fishing from the multiple rock locations with a handful of streams that the kids can play in (water is hot if the weather is). Definitely worth checking out"
"This is my favourite beach in Auckland as it is far away from the busy areas and in its own hidden location. It takes an hour to get out here from Auckland City, maybe longer depending and the last 20 minutes is spent on a dirt/gravel road which probably turns a lot of people off. Drivers are not very considerate and not only drive too fast but fail to keep left while others pass in the other direction. However, the reward is huge if you make it to the beach. There is a 10-15 minute walk from the carpark on the sand and the beach itself is amazing. It is nestled on the Manukau Harbour and Tasman Sea entrances with views to the south. There are no lifeguards here so swim with caution if you choose to do so. There are long walks to the north and areas to explore here. The Whatipu Caves can also be accessed, which is a 15 minute or so walk from the carpark (in another direction). You can also attempt the Omanawanui Track which is one of if not the best track with spectacular views of the harbour. Just be prepared, it is a very long track should you choose to complete the whole course. This is really just a magnificent beach and the best of the West Auckland beaches in my opinion. It has a private feeling and is less packed than Piha and Bethells."
"Very nice place by the sea. The gravel road in between the forest is ok. Lots of fishermen. Cheers"
"The beach is unique. And there is more than a beach. You will find awesome mountains around, that you can hike to reach outstanding lookout. The site with its regional park is worth to explore."
"Beautiful, as many other West Coast, beaches. A bit further away from the water than Piha for example, so be prepared to walk for about 15 min. Keep your jandals on, the black sand is extremely hot around noon."
