About the Business
Welcome to Glen Eden Community House, located in Auckland, New Zealand. Our institution serves as a hub for the community, providing resources, information, and a focal point for learning, social interaction, and the sharing of knowledge. We strive to foster and encourage all forms of arts and crafts, hobbies, and leisure time activities.
At Glen Eden Community House, we offer a wide range of education programs, including fitness classes, first aid training, learner license courses, and special interest groups. We also provide spaces for community groups and individuals to hire, allowing them to have a home for their activities. Our goal is to create opportunities for genuine community partnerships and nurture community development and place-based initiatives.
As an Incorporated Society with Charitable Status CC 23705, Glen Eden Community House is governed by an executive committee that meets monthly. Our building is fully accessible, with ramps, wider hallways and doorways, and fully equipped toilet facilities.
The history of Glen Eden Community House dates back over 40 years. The house was donated to the people of Glen Eden and relocated from Daraville in 1989 with support and funding from Glen Eden Borough Council. It has been located within Prospect Park on Pisces Road ever since.
Our journey began in the mid-1970s when mothers in the area started an informal playgroup in their homes. As the group grew, they realized the need for a dedicated meeting space, leading to the establishment of Glen Eden Community House. A public meeting was held, and a steering group was formed to advocate for a community house. Eventually, a management committee was elected, and the first tenancy agreement was signed with Waitakere City Council.
Over the years, we have undergone several extensions and improvements. The house was broken into and damaged by fire, leading to the implementation of a 3-stage extension plan. The plan included the addition of car parking spaces, an extended play area with a purpose-built preschool playground, and the construction of the Nikau Room, additional toilets, and a storeroom.
We are proud to have gained IRD tax exemption as a charity organization, further highlighting our commitment to serving the community. In addition to our regular programs and activities, we also offer before and after-school care, as well as a school holiday program.

"Great place for family and friend gatherings with kids"
"Very nice and clean to walk in the park"
"Polite and helpful office staff. Pleasant room for poetry meetings. Well ventilated with option to meet outside on deck, when appropriate. Possibly easier to bring your own hot drink during colder months. Clear instructions about cleaning table etc before leaving."
"Clean, lots of green places for kids. It has a BBQ place, picnic area and playground. Quiet and far from the main road. It only need a public restroom then its 5 star."
"Great playgroup for my youngest (Pisces rd playgroup) is held here 3 days a week. Cool playground inside the gates for the littlies and a bigger one outside the gates for the big kids and a set of swings. I've been here for a kids birthday too and it was awesome. Kitchen for prep and space for the kids to play freely."
