Reviews
"The climb to the top was very steep and pretty windy so it was quite daunting but views were worth it. Loved that I could enjoy the green fields of the mountains and the waves of the coastline too. My favourite walk so far close to Wellington in terms of views but I found the climb (although short) quite challenging even with average fitness level, so something to consider esp for those with weak knees!"
"Nice tough walk along some very scenic terrain. A few different tracks to choose from. The one along the beach is not established for very long and there is a small amount of rock hopping involved at high tide. The inland tracks are very steep in parts. The gun emplacements cordoned off but can be looked at."
"Less than 3h round trip to the gun encampments/summit and back. The hike is quite hilly, so it alternates between steep bits and flatter lookout point. Overall, a great effort to reward ratio!"
"Stunning. Doc website says the track is a 6.6km loop. The signage on site says 8kms which is more accurate. We did 9.5kms in 2.5 hrs. If you go left along the rocks at the bottom, you can add some extra distance. The hard bit is uphill at the start with the amazing views. Toilets are at the carpark which has heaps of parks even on a busy day. Cafe located at the carpark too. Heaps of people were fishing for paua and kina in wetsuits and snorkeling."
"Really nice walk, challenging on the way up, but worth it for the views. Takes about 3hrs to do the full circuit back along the beach. Would be a really nice picnic lunch destination. Heaps of families swimming at the beach at the start on a nice day."
