Welcome to Shore Kids Therapy Centre, a private child, adolescent, and family mental healthcare clinic located in the heart of Albany, North Shore, Auckland. Our clinic offers therapy with a difference, providing ethical and confidential interventions suitable for both short and long-term treatment.

At Shore Kids Therapy, our dedicated team is led by Catherine Hunt, a registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist and member of the NZ Association of Psychotherapists. With a passion for animals, Catherine incorporates them into her practice when appropriate, adding a unique element to the therapy experience.

With over three years of experience in mental health, Catherine has worked for District Health Boards and NGO services across Auckland, catering to both tertiary and community care. Prior to her career in mental health, Catherine spent 11 years in Early Childhood Education, bringing a deep understanding of child development to her practice.

Our therapy services at Shore Kids Therapy encompass a wide range of options for children, teenagers, and families. These include in-person or online psychotherapy, Canine Assisted Psychotherapy, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, and Family Based Psychotherapy. Each intervention is tailored to the individual's age and stage of development, ensuring effective and age-appropriate support.

Catherine specializes in helping children, young people, and their families navigate their emotions and behaviors. She works closely with parents and caregivers, actively involving them in the therapeutic process and providing practical solutions. Catherine is trained in various therapeutic models, including Psychodynamic Therapy, Attachment Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, and Psycho-Education, adapting her approach to meet the unique needs of each client.

Sessions at Shore Kids Therapy are held for 50 minutes and can be scheduled weekly or fortnightly. Children benefit from a playroom environment that encourages self-expression through play, while adolescents may prefer alternative forms of expression such as art or the sand tray. This type of therapy helps children find healthy ways to verbalize their emotions rather than acting them out, providing a safe therapeutic space for both children and their parents or caregivers.

Cancellation policy: Please note that we require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations. Failure to provide notice or a no-show will result in an automatic invoice of $80, which must be paid before continuing therapy.

For those interested in Canine Assisted Psychotherapy, we are delighted to introduce Riley, our facility dog who previously worked with Assistance Dogs NZ. Riley accompanies clients during therapy sessions, enhancing the therapeutic alliance and creating a comforting environment. Please inform us of any allergies or fears of dogs prior to sessions.

Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is available at a separate location in Kumeu. These outdoor sessions offer clients the opportunity to work with two different herds of horses, facilitated by both an equine specialist and a psychotherapist. Please note that there is an additional cost for Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.
