This temporary closure is necessary as we are undertaking a significant refurbishment and earthquake strengthening project to ensure the safety and longevity of this historic venue.
Since 2019, we have been collaborating with a team of engineers, architects, consultants, heritage specialists, and experts from the music industry to develop a comprehensive plan for the Mercury Theatre's restoration. Our aim is to preserve its iconic status and ensure that it continues to be a cherished venue for generations to come.
To make this ambitious project a reality, we are seeking your support in raising $24 million. The funds will be allocated to two distinct stages. Stage 1 involves raising $14 million, which will be dedicated to the much-needed earthquake strengthening and refurbishment of the theatre. Stage 2 aims to raise an additional $10 million to complete the comprehensive restoration work.

"First time visit to watch Deacon Blue perform their 30th Anniversary tour. Great venue to get up close to the performers. Only downside was the air flow as the building is over 100 years old but the sound was excellent. Balcony adds to the antiquity of the place and the band encouraged dancing even in the stalls. Please come back to NZ again . A++"

"I had never heard of this place until we bought tickets to see the Teskey Brothers. The theatre has definitely seen better days but it is still a good venue. It seems great for music as it is quite small and intimate. Wine was pricey though $12/glass! I would visit again"
