"About 14 months ago, I contracted Genius Removals to move all of our possessions from Torrington NSW to storage in Chinchilla, Queensland. I was working near Canberra and was unable to take time off. My wife had to fly to Brisbane from Canberra and drive down to Tenterfield then to where our possessions were stored in two 20 ft shipping containers. I told Genius that there were two containers prior to engaging them and that some items would have to be packed. As my wife was driving from Brisbane to Tenterfield, Gerrie contacted me and tried to defer the move - this after having previously confirmed date, time and location. On their arrival Gerrie tried to convince my wife that I had told him there was only one container (we had packed all that was there and more into one container for our move from the Gold Coast some time prior to this) and they then said we may have to pay more because a lot of smaller items weren’t packed and that there were two containers - I had also told him about the loose items. After working away interstate for fourteen months, we got back to go through our possessions and found that a 100 plus year old antique bed head has either been lost by Genius or simply left behind. Many loose tools were thrown in with breakables while they were packing and some of my items were definitely left behind. After about forty moves throughout the past forty-five years, there has only been one other removalist who left anything behind. To say I’m not happy would be a masterpiece of understatement. To cap all of this off, Gerrie then asked for $450 extra, which I paid, when he told me that all they’d left behind was my mineral samples, which they “couldn’t fit in to the truck”. Finally, when we arrived at our storage in Chinchilla, heavy beds had been put on an antique dining table and it was impossible to get in as everything was put on the floor of the unit and not packed up to allow access. We have had to reorganise everything to allow us access. A cast iron chair had a leg broken, rendering it unusable and it had to be dumped."
