Liffey Falls
Liffey Falls Track, Liffey, Tasmania 7301
About the Business
Welcome to Liffey Falls, a captivating tourist attraction located in the heart of Liffey, Australia. Nestled amidst a deep, mossy forest beneath the awe-inspiring Great Western Tiers, these beautiful multi-level falls offer a breathtaking sight to behold. The cascading waters of the Liffey River, fed by the plateau, gracefully flow down, eroding the softer mudstone and revealing stunning sandstone steps over which the abundant waters tumble.
At Liffey Falls, you have the opportunity to explore two walking tracks that lead you through enchanting tracts of rainforest. The walk from the top car park, which features picnic facilities, offers a shorter and well-maintained track. On the other hand, the track from the lower car park, with minimal facilities, is longer and less developed. Whichever path you choose, you will be immersed in the wonders of nature.
As you venture along the tracks, you will encounter four main cascades, starting with Alexandra Falls, followed by Hopetoun Falls, Albert Falls, and finally, Victoria Falls, commonly known as "Liffey Falls." Along the way, you'll find convenient viewing platforms that provide excellent opportunities for capturing stunning photographs.
To reach Liffey Falls, take the Highland Lakes Rd (A5) from Deloraine or Great Lake, then turn off at the signpost onto Riversdale Rd (C513). Please note that Riversdale Road is not suitable for larger vehicles such as buses, caravans, and motorhomes. Instead, access the falls via Liffey township on Gulf Rd (also C513), which is suitable for larger vehicles. The gravel road leading to Liffey Falls is steep and winding, so exercise caution and keep to the left.
We kindly request that you avoid driving in our reserves at night, as you will be sharing the roads with native wildlife. Drive slowly and remain vigilant for animals on the road to ensure their safety and yours.
No Parks Pass is required to visit Liffey Falls State Reserve. The top car park via Riversdale Road is designated for day use only and is not accessible by buses, trailers, or vans. However, free camping is available at the lower car park via Gulf Road. If you are driving a larger vehicle such as a motorhome or campervan, it is best to access the camping area from the township of Liffey.
Please note that Liffey Falls is located within the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area and is a Fuel Stove Only Area. Feel free to utilize the provided free gas BBQs at the Upper Liffey Falls day use area, but campfires are not permitted at the Lower Liffey Falls camping area.
Before embarking on your visit, we recommend checking the "Know before you go" section on our website for additional essential information about visiting Tasmania's parks and reserves.
For your comfort and safety, even on a short walk and in good weather, we advise carrying a light pack with a weatherproof jacket, warm hat, 1 liter of water per person for every 3 hours of walking, high energy food, and a first aid kit that includes an emergency space blanket. Additionally, be prepared for bright sunshine by carrying a sunhat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent. Remember to bring a rubbish bag and carry your trash out with you, leaving the area as pristine as you found it.
If your mobile phone has a signal, it's recommended to take it with you, but limit its use to conserve battery life. For walks in remote areas, it is wise to pack extra food and an emergency shelter or tent.
At Liffey Falls, we acknowledge and pay respect to the Tasmanian Aboriginal people as the traditional and original owners of this land. We also recognize the ongoing custodianship of this land by the Aboriginal community, including the past, present, and emerging Elders.

Reviews
"Hell of a drive on forestry roads but worth the trip. Reasonable walk to the falls from the car park. Slightly overcast on the day we visited but the sun shone at times for some good photos."
"Great family walk. Went with my wife and our two toddlers. Took us around an hour and a half because we kept stopping to look at the mushrooms and "look for treasure". Enchanting is the best way to describe the walk. Driving in can be difficult depending on the time of year and recent weather. We went in Winter, so I would highly recommend a 4WD to cope with the slippery muddy sections of road. Summertime should be no issue."
"The drive there is just as beautiful as the Falls. Well worth a visit. Check Tasmania Parks & Wildlife Service for open/closed info in case of weather events. Short walk from the top car park."
"Whilst the falls remained closed due to recent storm damage, the surrounding area is simply amazing. The Camp Ground is so worth a visit - flush toilet and great camping facilities. The best however is the walk nearby - the ferns, forest are truly beautiful. I’ll be back!!!"
