To the Larrakia, Darwin is known as Garramilla, reflecting their deep connection to the area.

The Larrakia people, also known as the 'Saltwater people,' have a rich cultural heritage that spans generations. Despite the challenges they have faced, such as the devastation caused by Japanese bombing raids during World War II and the destructive Cyclone Tracy in 1974, the Larrakia have shown resilience and adaptability.
