"Fish was amazing, well cooked, not oily, no overall fishy aftertaste, batter didn’t taste like oil. Probably the best takeaway fish in cairns. Chips were good, pretty sure they’re the gluten free kind but still good and fresh. Husband loved his Dagwood dog and Caesar salad so Thankyou! Will definitely be returning as it’s hard to find somewhere in cairns that is great at both chips and fish."
"Worst Chips I've ever had. We were trying to feed 6 people and all 6 found the chips inedible. Called back to get a fresh batch made and they declined. They instead gave a refund and spoke poorly to me."
"Although Balaclava Road is usually my go to F & C shop, living in Mooroobool, I was keen to give Seabirds a try as there's some great reviews posted (4 months or more ago). Unfortunately the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. The mackeral wafers, yes wafers, have to be a normal fillet sliced in half unless you are getting undersized mackeral. For 9 bucks a throw, that was a big disappointment. Secondly the fish and the crumbed prawns were very oily and dark. Your tank is badly in need of an oil change Seabirds. Handcut chips looked great, tasted okay and weren't dripping dirty oil. Couldn't eat it and I am a fish and chip glutton. Back to Balaclava Road for me. ***** For the benefit of the owner who seems to be doubting my above comment, the order was paid for at 6.37pm last Thursday 15th September. $36.50 for 2 x mackeral (battered), large chips and 4 x crumbed prawns. Photo attached below..... ***** Ed, loyalty to your suppliers at the expense of your paying customers is a poor business model in the F & B industry to my way of thinking. Your comment indicates you knew you had a problem with the oil yet you willingly sold your product without warning the customer the quality would be affected. I paid in good faith expecting good food as others have received. When a customer gives you a deserved low star rating, you are disappointed about it. Should reviewers only give 4 and 5 stars ? You've addressed the dirty oil but I'm equally concerned about the thin mackeral fillets. They were half as thick as a normal fillet for the full fillet price. If that's another supplier problem then a decent fish & chip shop would give their customers 2 small fillets to keep them somewhat satisfied. Many a time I've received 3 decent sized fish fillets when I only ordered 2 from other Cairns shops......without mentioning any names. Ed, I'm not calling you and I'm not removing this review. You provided a potential ongoing customer with a sub-standard product that you knew was not high quality to begin with. That is poor form."
