Avis Car & Truck Rental Cairns Airport Beaufort Street, Aeroglen, Queensland 4870

"Do yourself a favor and don't bother with these guys. First we were told we don't need insurance because we have travel insurance, which is not true, as most insurance companies world-wide DON'T COVER RENTAL CARS. That would be a good thing for the employees to know. Secondly when we returned our car, one of the employees told us to leave our stuff in the parking lot while we go into the office. During these couple of minutes someone from the outside ran over our luggage with their car. AVIS didn't take any responsibility and even though we were very calm about the situation and said it feels unfair that they tell us we can leave it and then noone is watching it, they didn't care. On of the workers only said "Yeah someone drove over it and left", like it wouldn't be a big thing at all. My partners bag and a lot of the insides broke completely and my laptop broke. We talked to the manager who promised to call us back the next they and let us know about some for of compensation, but surprise surprise it's been a week and nothing. I feel disappointed and disrespeced."

"Crisis averted thanks to Avis today. We had a 3 week rental to drive from Cairns to Sydney at a different company and it was actually reserved for a round trip. Not an option. Because of the school holidays 3 other companies said they could not rent us a car one way and one even suggested we just skip the trip (and the loses) and fly back to Sydney. Then we tried Avis and they made it happen. Lake, the person helping us, seemed like he enjoyed being able to help us out and it was awesome because we were a bit stressed as this was happening. While we booked the car, 2 other employees came in to say they were leaving for the day and they all seemed to just enjoy working with each other. What a great experience despite the chaos that brought us there. Thanks for saving our vacation!"

"Please do yourself a favour a do not rent a car with Avis. Like other reviews have mentioned, they are total scam artists. Everything was fine until we dropped off the car at Cairns Airport. At the international terminal, there is only a box to drop off your keys (no employees). Since we had a flight to catch, we had no choice but to just leave the keys there. The same day, we received an email with our final receipt which confirmed the amount to be paid as being the same we signed for on our contract. A few days later, we noticed that an extra 1500 AUD was charged to our credit card. We contacted Avis and they simply mentioned that it was for damages and that an investigation was ongoing. They refused to tell us what the damages were. It’s been over a month and a half and we still haven’t received any updates from them. We did not damage the car in any way. This is clearly a fraudulent money grab. Seems to me that they purposefully don’t have anyone to sign off on the car drop off so that they can then claim inexistant damages and rip off clients"

"Mia from Avis car rental at Cairns airport is fantastic and extremely helpful with extending our booking. Took extra time to ensure we got the cheapest rate and kept the car we already had all of our luggage and 3 car seats in."

"UPDATE: I finally got in touch with the legends at the Cairns depot and they've sorted the whole thing out. The wonderful experience I have had with the people there has really outweighed the pain I went through with Avis' general customer support. Our car was near-new, in great condition, and absolutely spotless on the inside. Picking up from inside the airport was super convenient too. Had a great experience picking the car up, the staff member who looked after us was super friendly and assured us that the discrepancy between our booking and their system wouldn't be an issue. A month and a half after returning the car and Avis still has our $229 security deposit and cannot give me a real answer as to why they have hung onto it. Unfortunately I can't even get in touch with this branch, calls go straight to the call centre who have no idea what's going on."
