About the Business
Welcome to Far North Queensland Clinic, located in the heart of Cairns City on Spence Street. As a private psychiatry clinic, we are dedicated to providing discreet and confidential mental health assessment and treatment. Our goal is to offer the most up-to-date treatment options backed by evidence-based medicine.
At FNQ Clinic, we offer a range of services, including psychiatry treatment, medicolegal assessments, fitness for duty evaluations, and independent opinions and reports. To schedule an appointment for treatment, a referral from your General Practitioner is required. For any reporting needs, we kindly ask for a letter of request outlining specific requirements.
Our clinic provides a comprehensive range of services, including medication prescriptions, psychotherapy, second opinions, independent reports, and professional supervision. We understand the importance of confidentiality, and therefore, we request that no family members, support persons, or dependents under the age of 18 accompany you to your appointment or wait in the waiting room. Please make arrangements for their care on the day of your appointment.
At FNQ Clinic, we take pride in our dedicated team of professionals who are committed to providing exceptional care. Dr. O'Hare works closely with your General Practitioner or referring doctor to address any concerns and ensure seamless coordination of your treatment. Our secretarial staff, Michelle and Trish, are highly trained and experienced in handling your mental health care needs. They are available to respond to emails, phone calls, texts, and faxes, making bookings, liaising with GPs and other referrers, and assisting with Medicare and other entitlements.
As a specialist in psychiatry, Dr. O'Hare brings a comprehensive and integrated approach to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of psychiatric disorders and mental health problems. While primarily working with your General Practitioner, she also collaborates with families and other caregivers when necessary. Her expertise allows her to address both the physical and emotional aspects of psychiatric disorders, providing relief from a range of developmental, emotional, and behavioral disorders.
During your appointment, you are encouraged to bring a list of questions that Dr. O'Hare can address personally. Please note that our staff are not qualified to comment on treatment, medication, or other elements of your care. Additionally, Dr. O'Hare specializes in adult psychiatry and does not see patients under the age of 18. If necessary, she can arrange admission under the care of another psychiatrist, and most patients return to FNQ Clinic for ongoing care after discharge.
At FNQ Clinic, we understand the importance of a strong therapeutic alliance in achieving successful treatment outcomes. If you have any concerns or preferences, please feel free to discuss them with Dr. O'Hare during your session. If you prefer, you may also return to your GP for a referral elsewhere, but kindly remember to cancel any future appointments to avoid a fee.
The Boland's Centre, Level 2, Suite 10, at 14 Spence Street is where you will find our clinic. Should you have any questions about your condition or any other aspects of your care, Dr. O'Hare will be happy to address them during your appointment, as everyone's needs are unique.
Lastly, in the spirit of reconciliation, FNQ Clinic acknowledges and pays respect to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the Traditional Owners and custodians of this country. We specifically recognize the Rainforest Aboriginal Peoples, including the Yirrganydji and Gimuy Walubara Yidinji peoples, as the traditional custodians of the land on which we work. We honor all cultures and customs, and pay our respect to elders, both past and present, as well as future generations.

"I strongly disagree with the other low starred comments. I was scheduled for an IME with Dr. O’Hare as recently as yesterday (2/3/21). I have had the experience of dealing with face to face and Zoom. Prior or the meeting I looked her up on here an notes the terrible reviews. I saw her stern looking profile pic on her website. I felt uneasy as I struggle with PTSD and impulsive anger. I went to my appointment ready to do battle. Dr O’Hare was nothing like the awful reviews, in fact 180% opposite. She smiled in a caring manner and showed empathy where she could. I told her about the bad reviews and she said that there wasn’t anything that could be done about them but indicated the low stars probably weren’t justified. I also recommended she change her profile image to one with a smile. Easy to talk to and listens. Seems to genuinely be interested in people’s story."
"Worst experience attending an IME with this woman! This Psychatrist is harmful to First Nations People and has no cultural responsiveness in her clinical practice. I cannot find any research papers where this doctor claims to have experience with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Her claims to deal with many mental health disorders are statements only! This doctor has no understanding of cultural capability, let alone 'Closing the Gap' and is unwilling to adapt her practice for First Nations People especially how mental health affects the person mentally, physically, spiritually, and culturally. I am unsure if this Psychatrist has an understanding of the high suicide rates with our mob. Either way, her practice is dangerous to your health and wellbeing, stay clear!"
"Psychic!!!! Mary-Ellen O'Hare is actually a psychic Google have made an error. She's not very good either just the usual crystal ball, "have you ever been in a car recently and been really mad" haha nice try lady. Lucky I made it out the door without giving her my money but her 6ft receptionist did attempt to beat me down on the way out of that freak gypsy room. Lucky I am quick and nible and slipped right through that giant chicks hands I live to tell another tale, but learn from me, surely go somewhere else if you want non drama psychiatric assessmemt."
"Dr Mary Ellen O'Hare is amazing! I would recommend her to anyone! She had a great impact on my recovery! I can't thank her enough!"
