About the Business
Welcome to The Annexe, located in the beautiful city of Hobart, Tasmania. As an establishment and point of interest, we offer more than just a place to study. We believe in the power of connection and provide opportunities for students to meet new people through events, sports, and volunteering.
At The Annexe, we take pride in our research excellence, which has a positive impact on Tasmania and beyond. We foster deep connections, not only within our university community but also with local industries, schools, and the people who call our island home.
One aspect we are particularly proud of is our commitment to climate action. The University of Tasmania has been ranked #1 internationally for climate action by the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings for two consecutive years. We are dedicated to leading the way in addressing the pressing issue of climate change.
Located near Tasmania's stunning Blue Lakes, we offer a degree that provides a global perspective on important issues. Our Bachelor of Natural Environment and Wilderness program allows students like Gemma Rushton to study in one of the most incredible environments in the world.
Tasmania is known for its outdoor lifestyle, and we embrace this by offering opportunities for students to engage in activities such as surfing. Upadhya Anjalie Balachandra was drawn to Tasmania for its natural beauty and diverse range of interests catered to by the island.
As the only university in Tasmania, we have unrivaled access to the state's renewable energy industry, particularly hydroelectricity. Our students, like Bunfu Yu, benefit from this unique industry access and have the opportunity to excel in their chosen fields.
We are constantly reimagining education at our campuses to provide the best possible learning experience for Tasmanians. Our commitment to accessibility and future-proofing our university ensures that we can continue to provide a high-quality education to as many people as possible.
Join us for our upcoming events, where you can explore our campuses, get a taste of uni life, and learn about our courses, pathways, and scholarships directly from our students and teaching staff. Registrations are now open for events in Sydney, Hobart, and Launceston.
We are proud to announce that four early-career researchers from the University of Tasmania have been awarded significant funding for their research projects. Our commitment to supporting research and innovation is evident through programs like the Discovery Early Career Researcher Awards (DECRAs).
Music students at The Annexe recently had the incredible opportunity to learn from horn player Stefan Dohr from the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. These types of experiences highlight the unique opportunities available to our students.
At The Annexe, we recognize the importance of climate change education and its integration into schooling. We believe that educating our future generations about environmental issues is essential for a sustainable future.
We celebrate the achievements of our students, like Jay Hennicke, who successfully juggled multiple passions while studying law at our university. Our diverse range of programs allows students to pursue their interests and excel in various fields.
Experience the talent of our students firsthand as Ossa Music Prize-winning pianist Sarah Chick embarks on a statewide tour, showcasing the work of women composers. This is just one example of the incredible talent nurtured at The Annexe.
While reducing carbon emissions is vital, we also recognize the importance of removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Through our research and innovation, we strive to find solutions to compensate for sectors where emissions reduction is more challenging.
Join us at The Annexe and be a part of our vibrant and innovative community. Discover the endless possibilities for growth, connection, and success in one of the most beautiful places in Australia.

"Tiny rooms but enough to fit everything in"
"The container wall is so thin and you can hear all conversation and noise from next room, extremely pool sound isolation, even the mobile alarm can wake up the student next room. So terrible experience."
"The rooms are self sufficient. Has attached toilets. Can be cleaned and managed easily. Rent might seem a little more than it should be. But it is still fine."
