We understand that the recent decision to close our maternity service from 1 November 2023 may come as disappointing news. Despite our best efforts, we have been unable to recruit the necessary specialist obstetricians and paediatricians to ensure the safe operation of the service. Our priority is always the safety of our patients, and without sufficient qualified doctors, we are unable to maintain the high level of care required for mothers and their babies.

Rest assured, we are working closely with our obstetricians and expecting parents to ensure a smooth transition to alternative care providers. We have collaborated with Cairns Public Hospital, who have assured us that they have the capacity to support the additional births.

Although we are saddened by the closure of our maternity service, we remain committed to providing high-quality private healthcare in Cairns. We have ongoing developments, including a $20 million expansion project to create two additional operating theatres and a state-of-the-art sterilising department. Additionally, we have recently acquired land for future hospital expansion and have implemented eco-friendly measures such as solar panels to reduce our carbon footprint. We have also extended our services to include community psychology and allied health services through Ramsay Psychology and Ramsay Health Plus clinics. Furthermore, we have invested $500,000 in equipment to enhance our expanding ENT service, which now includes two new ENT surgeons.

For convenient access to respected local GPs, we offer the After Hours GP Clinic at Cairns Private Hospital. This appointment-based service operates on weekday evenings and weekend afternoons and early evenings. Located within the hospital premises, the clinic provides easy access to pathology, radiology, and pharmacy services. Patients can schedule appointments by calling 4052 5305 after 12pm. Our aim is to supplement the services of regular GPs, offering longer appointments of at least 30 minutes with minimal wait times.

To ensure we meet patient expectations and continuously improve our services, we conduct Net Promoter Score surveys. These surveys help us understand how well we are meeting patient needs and identify areas for improvement.

We have also taken steps to make it easier for consumers to access information about our excellent patient outcomes and initiatives. Initiatives such as the Ramsay Rule and the Speak Up For Patient Safety Program have been implemented to promote patient safety and maintain high standards of care.
