About the Business
Welcome to Drawing Room Rocks, a must-visit tourist attraction located in the picturesque City of Shoalhaven, New South Wales, Australia. Situated within the stunning Barren Grounds Nature Reserve, this establishment is a true landmark and point of interest in the region.
To reach Drawing Room Rocks, embark on a scenic walk that ascends from 250m to 600m above sea level. As you traverse through the enchanting forest and heathland, you'll be captivated by the natural beauty that surrounds you. The walk eventually leads to a plateau where you'll discover nature's very own Drawing Room. Here, you'll find rock formations that resemble tables and chairs, providing a unique and awe-inspiring setting.
The distinctive shapes of the Drawing Room Rocks are a result of the gradual weathering of the Hawkesbury Sandstone. Over time, agents such as wind, rain, cold, heat, and chemicals in rainfall have sculpted these magnificent formations. The sandstone is composed of horizontal strata, resulting in flat table tops made of a harder, more resistant mineral layer that has withstood erosion.
It's important to note that the Drawing Room Rocks walk includes sections with steep inclines and unfenced open cliff faces. After rainfall, some areas may become slippery. Therefore, it is not recommended for young children. Additionally, please be aware that old versions of Google Maps may display the incorrect location for this walk, so it's advisable to update your app for accurate information.
To commence the walk, head towards Woodhill Mountain Road from the northern end of Berry, on the town side of the bridge. Follow this road for 6.8km until you reach Woodhill, where it splits into Wattamolla Road leading to Kangaroo Valley. After 100m, take the road on the right signposted as "Drawing Room Rocks". Please be mindful that car parking is limited, and turning around can be challenging. Avoid parking in front of private property gates.
As this walk involves natural steps and the Drawing Room Rocks lookout has no fence, it is not suitable for young children. Additionally, pets are not allowed in the Barren Grounds Nature Reserve, where the Drawing Room Rocks walk is located.
Please exercise caution when embarking on this walk, as it features steep inclines and unfenced open cliff faces. It's essential to note that this walk is not maintained or recommended by National Parks or Shoalhaven City Council.
Drawing Room Rocks is not only a haven for nature enthusiasts but also a popular destination for road cycling enthusiasts. With approximately 38km in distance, challenging climbs, and thrilling descents, it has become a mainstay for quality road riding in the Berry area.

"Great walk to a stunning view, not too far off the highway and the walk isn't too challenging."
"One of the best hike outside of Sydney and breathtaking view from the top."
"Loved it. Track up is a little rough, but we managed without a 4WD vehicle. Nice 1.5km hike to the top , its steap, and lots of steps. But the view is worth it, and return by the same track. Only one brown snake crossed our path."
"Wow this was quite a nice hike, maybe a 10 min drive from the town of Berry. After maybe a 30 min hike, you will enter a clearing and you will be presented with quite a view. Photos speak for itself."
"Amazing scenery and overlooking view of the coast/mountain range. It takes approximately 45mins hike to go up so around 2 hours return. You’ll need 2.5-3hrs minimum time to hike here. The trail is bit challenging so you also have to be physically fit. This is a medium level trail but you’ll be able to hike with your kids with supervision especially in the cliffs."
