Reviews
"Optometry practice specialising in dry eye and contact lenses. Very skilled staff. Note the clinic is run out of Deakin University and often students will be present for the consult but overseen by senior optometrist."
"Shame there's no way of placing 0 stars. If you're trying to get into Optometry at Deakin then be careful with your decision. They only accept students who are willing to pay the full upfront payment. The Faculty of Health make students wait until enrolment period in Victoria is over just to let them know they were unsuccessful. Then they throw options into your face like Psychology and Forensic Science (Deakin courses that are generally taking in 1000+ students, because they know you don't have any other choice for the time being- and these types of courses don't lead into jobs easily). I wish nothing good for this university or the Deakin University Optometry course. Deakin Uni shouldn't get away with such fraud. Just like students have confirmed below, this course is a failure. The pathetic quality of the course and their wrong intentions. Stop treating university like a business, one day students are entering the health care sector. It's a no brainer."
"Such a fabulous, helpful Young man, Gentleman. Thank you for all your help today and being so respectful. Looking forward to getting my Glasses. Everyone at Deakin optometry were marvelous and friendly and helpful thanks once again to all you fabulous people. 100%."
"I enrolled in this course within the first cohort in 2013 - and withdrew. Now, I am not sure if it has been improved by now, however, while I was there, I found the course to be very rushed - esp. in regards to the theoretical concepts, and principles. Also, the clinical tutorials (PBL's) were not conducted by any qualified optometrist(s), and, the clinical skills in the lab were rushed through - even when allowed have own personal practice time(s). I would like to know the quality of graduates that this program has produced, esp. in regards to their clinical skills and diagnosing of ocular pathology capability. Go to Melbourne University, for a solid, well established and deeper, richer clinical experience (I personally know optom graduates from there). Also, Deakin optom graduates are now calling themselves "Dr" Optometrist only after completing 2.5 years of study - if applicants hold a Bachelor's degree prior to application they will receive credit for Year 1 subjects which are filler and not much use."
"Locating in the Region area of Australia, better to get more points for migration after graduation and it also offers a good study environment and English speaking atmosphere as well."
